Job Summary

The Manager, Intermodal Development is responsible for evaluating, leading, and implementing intermodal infrastructure projects and operational initiatives that position Intermodal to effectively deliver growth and improve its performance metrics. The role requires project management skills as well as knowledge of Intermodal operations, analytical capability, creative thinking, and the ability to deliver results.

Main Responsibilities

Project Development and Management

· Plan, coordinate, and execute initiatives and construction projects that improve Intermodal operational practices, efficiencies, and capacities (including opportunity evaluation, cost/benefit analysis, project oversight including budget and expense management).

· Engage and influence key stakeholders and build consensus to support effective project delivery

· Coordinate with customers, developers, contractors, and engineering consultants.

Technical Innovation, Process Analysis and Evaluation

· Recommend process improvements based on analysing operating procedures, and metrics and an understanding of the industry.

· Develop models and evaluate Marketing forecasts to assess terminal capacity (e.g., gate capacity, ground space capacity, etc.), recommending timing and options for capacity expansion initiatives.

· Recommend and present process-based and investment-based solutions to decision makers and implement these solutions if approval is granted.

· Act as CN’s technical consultant related to new intermodal product development, intermodal-specific process, civil and technical design and construction.

Idea Generation

· Identify new initiatives that will improve Intermodal operations practices, efficiencies, and throughput capacity.

· Evaluate emerging technological innovations and decarbonization initiatives affecting intermodal and recommend opportunities within CN Intermodal.

· Monitor new developments and trends in the intermodal industry.

Working Conditions

The role is performed in a combination of office and field environments in various conditions with a regular workweek from Monday toFriday. The position requires walking on uneven ground, climbing up steep embankments, and walking long distances. The position requires occasional travel (25%) within Canada and to the US.

Requirements

Experience

Rail-based Project Management

· 3 to 8 years of relevant experience in rail/railway consulting, terminal operations, logistics, or civil/industrial engineering

  • Experience in Project Management

  • Experience in Civil Engineering *

  • Experience in operational process*

  • Experience in these items is considered as an asset

Education/Certification/Designation

· Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Logistics, or Business

· Valid driver’s license

· Professional Engineer License obtained or in progress *

· Project Management designation*

· Knowledge of Intermodal Operations and economic analysis

· Knowledge of Project Management techniques

· Ability to review construction plans and drawings

· Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)

· Knowledge of Computer Aided Design (AutoCAD)*
