General Statement
The Department of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering at Montana State University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Mechanical Engineering Technology at the Assistant Professor level with primary responsibilities in teaching, scholarship and service/outreach. The successful candidate will become an integral part of the program. Duties will include teaching courses focused in mechanical engineering technology, course and curriculum development, participating in scholarly activities, and participating in professional/service activities.

Duties and Responsibilities
The new faculty member will be expected to contribute to excellence in undergraduate and potentially graduate teaching in the Mechanical Engineering Technology programs, perform scholarly and outreach activities, and provide service to the university, state, and profession. Other responsibilities include advising and mentoring undergraduate students, participation in curriculum development, participation in accreditation activities and committee assignments. We hope to attract applicants who can teach in a diverse University community and have demonstrated ability in helping students from diverse backgrounds succeed.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Masters (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering Technology or closely related field.
Record of relevant industrial or academic teaching experience.
Ability to obtain Professional Engineering Licensure in the state of Montana.
Excellent communications skills.
Demonstrated ability to teach a wide variety of courses within the mechanical engineering spectrum, such as: advanced manufacturing, automation and controls, mechatronics, design for manufacturability, process control, big data in manufacturing, machine learning with applications in manufacturing, thermal systems, HVAC applications and alternative energy applications.

Substantial work experience providing a breadth of expertise in the Mechanical Engineering field.
Demonstrated ability to engage a diverse student body and colleagues.
Demonstrated ability to develop coursework in all phases of the mechanical engineering technology curriculum.

The Program
The Department
The M&IE Department offers ABET accredited BS degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology and Industrial & Management Systems Engineering. A degree in Financial Engineering is also available. Graduate offerings include MS degrees in Industrial & Management Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, and a Ph.D. degree in Engineering with options in Industrial Engineering, Applied Mechanics or Mechanical Engineering. The Department is strong in both traditional and emerging areas of each discipline, with substantial laboratory facilities supporting instructional and research missions. Available to M&IE Department faculty are collaborations with a wide variety of MSU research centers. Examples include Center for Biofilm Engineering, Center for Bio-Inspired Nano-Materials, Center for Health and Safety Culture, Energy Research Institute, Imaging and Chemical Analysis Laboratory, Magnetic Resonance Lab, Montana Engineering Education Research Center, Montana Institute on Ecosystems, Montana Manufacturing Extension Center, Montana Microfabrication Facility, Subzero Science and Engineering Research Facility, Thermal Biology Institute, Western Transportation Institute, and Wind Application Center.
The College
The College of Engineering comprises five academic departments – Chemical & Biological Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical & Computer Engineering, and Mechanical & Industrial Engineering, and is home to the Center for Biofilm Engineering ( CBE ), Montana Microfabrication Facility ( MMF ), Montana Manufacturing Extension Center ( MMEC ), Subzero Science and Engineering Research Facility, , Western Transportation Institute ( WTI ), and Army and Air Force ROTC Units. The College enrolls approximately 3,600 students with more than 200 studying in graduate degree programs. Doctoral degree programs include a Ph.D. in Computer Science and a Ph.D. in Engineering with options in the fields of Applied Mechanics, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.
With a wide array of research programs in progress, MSU engineering faculty and students have garnered an impressive number of awards. In recent years, MSU engineering students have been recognized with a number of prestigious awards, including two Rhodes Scholarships, a Marshall Fellowship, a Gates- Cambridge Fellowship, and numerous Goldwater scholarships. The College recently moved into its new home, Norm Asbjornson Hall ( NAH ). This innovative facility will transform engineering education and scholarly activity at MSU .
