How you make a difference

The Intake Coordinator (RN) oversees the admissions department for a specified shift at the facility and ensures compliance with hospital and nursing policies and procedures. They provide direct patient care and collaborate with patients, colleagues, visitors, and external contacts in a positive and professional manner. Additionally, they direct and coordinate other staff members within the intake department on the daily activities and needs of the department.

Key Responsibilities

  • The Intake Coordinator (RN) assumes responsibility for the intake department, providing leadership and support to staff, overseeing quality assurance, and ensuring compliance with operational standards and EMTALA regulations.

  • Collaborates with other medical facilities/agencies, evaluates patients' mental health status, communicates with providers, and facilitates necessary interventions.

  • Identifies insurance benefits, obtains pre-certification for admission, and completes all admission requirements, including necessary documentation.

  • Responds to emergencies, provides support and guidance to staff, participates in the performance improvement process, and attends continuing education programs.

  • Works collaboratively with other departments and may work in other areas of the nursing department when assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education

  • Graduate from an accredited program in nursing.

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

Experience

  • A minimum of three (3) years clinical experience in a psychiatric or mental health setting preferred, with at least two (1) years direct experience as an intake nurse.

Licenses/Certifications

  • License to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of employment.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain CPR certification.
