St. Luke's University Health Network Allied Therapist, Partial Hospitalization Program, Full Time - Days (Float) in Bowmanstown, Pennsylvania

The Allied Therapist shall be responsible for assisting in the emotional and mental rehabilitation or adaptation of an individual with a disability using allied therapy skills and other creative modalities. As a member of the treatment team, under the direction of the physician and/or Clinical Supervisor, aid in the assessment, treatment and discharge planning of individuals with disabilities. This position requires an ability to be creative; adaptable and make independent judgments. The allied therapist serves would coordinate the treatment for an assigned number of patients under the supervision of the Clinical Supervisor.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides structured allied therapy groups, individualized treatment programs and develops new programs.

  • Provides psycho educational information to patients and their families.

  • Timely documentation of patient related information.

  • Participates in and presents in-services to behavioral medicine staff.

  • Co-supervises students to assure compliance with hospital and departmental policies.

  • Represents allied therapy in various multidisciplinary meetings.

  • May provide back-up for department therapists during vacation periods or extended absences.

  • Performs admission review on assigned patients.

  • Participates in individual patient care meetings with multidisciplinary team members and the patient/family to evaluate progress and to identify and resolve problems that may interfere with a positive patient outcome.

  • Identifies variances during the patient's stay in order to evaluate and improve processes that affect the efficiency and quality of patient care.

  • Provides patient education and advocacy as appropriate.

  • Maintains appropriate, timely and effective communication with patients, families, community agencies, physicians, nursing staff, department managers, ancillary departments and the Program Manager regarding variances, aspects of patient care management, and interpersonal issues with staff members of departments in order to facilitate a positive outcome for patients.

  • Maintains clinical records of all patient contact and clinical reviews, according to hospital policy and other regulatory guidelines (i.e., State, JCAHO).

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

-Standing constantly for minimum of 2-7 hours daily 10- 5 minute intervals.

-Walking constantly for up to 7 hours daily. Sitting for 1-hour increments, 3 hours daily. Lifting frequently using upper extremity, 5-10 pounds. -Push/pull frequently

-Carry frequently 5-10 pounds. Frequently assumes varying positions at times in confined areas, including stooping, crouching, twisting, reaching forward and above shoulder level. Frequently uses hands for handling varying sizes, shapes or textures, also twisting and turning equipment. Learning as it relates to normal conversation and must be able to identify high and low frequencies. Seeing as it relates to general vision, near and far vision, color and peripheral vision and depth perception.

EDUCATION:

Four-year bachelor degree from an accredited allied therapy program. If being hired as music therapist, current membership through the American Music Therapy Association and Certification through the Certification Board of Music Therapists.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Six months to one year experience in psychiatric allied therapy including an awareness of community resources and current therapeutic techniques. Hold current CPR certification.
