Responsibilities

  • Accountable for the safety of all employees for whom they are responsible through active engagement in safety activities and provides clear, consistent communication of safe work expectations.

  • Supports and investigates situations in which line/equipment stoppage occurs due to perceived, imminent safety risk.

  • Completes responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and procedures, and applicable laws

  • Actively leads risk assessment activities for their area of responsibility by driving prioritized corrective and preventive actions to eliminate/reduce environmental, health or safety risks.

  • Lead all required meetings with safety (i.e. Pre-shift, Department, Change Management, General communication, Town Hall, etc.)

  • Completes incident investigations, root cause analysis and implements corrective actions accordingly in a timely and thorough manner.

  • Ensures the proper training and development of all assigned employees for whom they are responsible.

  • Sets goals for their organizational unit; achieves goals and ensures that all employees understand and work toward achieving goals.

  • Motivates and coaches’ employees through good communication and frequent performance feedback. Identifies and coordinates additional training as needed.

  • Responding to any emergency or potential emergency.

  • Security diligence, including maintaining control of personal key cards, preventing unauthorized entry to the facility by non-Berry employees, and proper maintenance / security of Berry information and equipment within your direct responsibility.

  • Constant vigilance and participation in Food Safety practices.

  • Prevent nonconforming product from being shipped to customers.

  • Identify and record problems relating to product, process and quality system.

  • Observe all Safety precautions, Food Safety requirements and Plant rules to prevent injury to self or others and to prevent loss of material or damage to equipment.

  • Follow and wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

  • Responsible for ensuring, through system audits, that the Berry Global Quality Management System is executed per the Quality Manual.

  • Responsible for developing and ensuring the maintenance of the plants quality records, i.e. inspection and test results, gauge calibration, specifications, CAR’s training records or other records required by ISO, SQF, or customer requirements.

  • Maintain good housekeeping and 5S.

  • Lead function in an operational and cost-effective manner.

  • Communicate with other departments to assure both product quality and efficiencies of processes are maintained.

  • Responsible for all quality training programs, planning and coordinating various programs to meet personnel needs within the department and recommends improved training methods.

  • Communicates with customers to resolve quality issues and establish appropriate corrective action.

  • Supervise incoming raw material inspection.

  • Work with suppliers to continuously improve their processes and give feedback regarding their quality performance to drive improvement.

  • Organize and direct internal and external audits.

  • Establish and maintain good relationships with customers.

  • Review SPC data as needed and manage capability studies and prepares reports on the results.

  • Assist corporate engineering and customers in quality plan development.

  • Lead staff to accomplish activities in an efficient and safe manner.

  • Assist other departments with special projects as assigned.

  • Promotes and audits GMP policy as well as product safety.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Capable of physical mobility including sitting, bending, twisting, standing, and lifting.

  • Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.

  • Capable of maintaining an attendance record within company guidelines and working required overtime.

  • Read, write and speak English.

  • Past experience / proven ability within the specified disciplines.

  • Negative drug screen test results.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Quality related field or equivalent experience.

  • Three to five years of Quality leadership experience.

  • Strong organizational and leadership skills.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Lotus Notes.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide guidance and leadership to others.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop a team environment.

  • Working knowledge of ISO, SPC, and team building.

  • ASQ certification and Plastics experience is a plus.

  • Experience with GMP and various organizations such as ASI, and AIB.

  • Available to work extended work days and weekends as needed.

  • Ability to travel as needed.
