AT&T Strategic Platforms Infrastructure Operations team is looking for a passionate Akamai Systems Engineer. This role is needed to adequately support Akamai configuration for hundreds of AT&T applications and domains setup in the Akamai CDN.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • This role would be responsible for managing Akamai CDN configurations for high traffic highly iterative customer facing websites.

  • Work with stakeholders to design, author, implement, and test Akamai changes in preproduction environment and ultimately once complete propagate to production.

  • Provide technical design recommendations and work hand-in-hand with Akamai professional services to assess impacts of changes.

  • Perform Akamai related maintenance activities.

  • Apply Performance, web acceleration techniques

  • Help setup and maintain reports related to traffic and usage data, dashboards for usage and performance and documentation designed to help inform and notify stakeholders.

  • Create and maintain tools interfacing with various Akamai features.

  • Support Akamai related events that could occur during off hours and be available for helping troubleshoot customer or release impacting incidents.

  • Research, analyze and recommend new technologies, rationalization opportunities, standard processes, tools, and techniques related to Akamai or other Edge products/solutions.

  • Research Emerging Technologies: Identify and evaluate new technologies in the market related to Akamai and other edge computing products and solutions. Focus on innovations that enhance performance, security, and scalability.

  • Analyze Rationalization Opportunities: Assess current technologies and processes to identify areas where rationalization can lead to improved efficiency and cost savings. This may include consolidating redundant tools or optimizing existing solutions.

  • Develop Standard Processes: Create standardized processes that can be universally applied to manage and deploy edge solutions effectively. Ensure these processes are scalable and adaptable to various use cases and environment.

  • Evaluate Tools and Techniques: Investigate and recommend advanced tools and techniques that can enhance the deployment, management, and monitoring of edge products. Prioritize tools that offer automation, real-time analytics, and robust security features.

  • Provide Recommendations: Compile a comprehensive report with actionable recommendations based on the research and analysis. Include a clear roadmap for implementation, potential impacts, and anticipated benefits.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in a Systems Engineering role.

  • Must have 3+ years of level of real world Akamai configuration experience managing various Akamai features across multiple domains. Experience with other CDNs considered. Ex. Fastly, CloudFlare, Imperva, Cloudfront, etc.

  • Experience with large Akamai security feature implementations.

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in cloud engineering, site reliability, devops, system infrastructure, or a related technical role.

  • 5+ years of experience building and/or supporting web applications.

  • Experience with monitoring tools such as Dynatrace, Prometheus/Grafana, ELK stack, ability to understand metrics and impact to system performance.

  • Strong scripting and coding ability across multiple languages and technologies.

  • Willingness to work flexible hours, oncall as needed.

  • Proven experience optimizing reliability and performance for large scale web hosting environments.

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to provide data driven recommendations for critical decision making, mainly around edge configuration and improvement.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to present complex technical information in a clear manner to peers, developers, and leadership.

Optional Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, preferred.

  • Internet security related experience.

  • Web based architecture/design and development experience.

  • Familiarity with HTML5, JavaScript frameworks, and CSS3.

  • Linux Operating Systems experience.

  • Experience in a technical leadership capacity - team lead/manager etc.

Our Principal System Engineering, earn between $158,200 - $237,400. Not to mention all the other amazing rewards that working at AT&T offers. Individual starting salary within this range may depend on geography, experience, expertise, and education/training.
