We are looking for a Sr. Mechanical Engineer to develop solutions that require significant innovation to push the state of the art in electromechanical & design integration - incorporating structural system architecture & analysis, sensor integration with thermal management as well as sensor fusion solutions for the new Amazon Dash Cart and other confidential projects. Our team is based in the Boston MetroWest area.

Amazon Dash Cart allows shoppers to checkout without lines — you just place the items in the cart and the cart will take care of the rest. When you’re done shopping, you leave the store through a designated dash lane. We charge the payment method in your Amazon account as you walk through the dash lane and send you a receipt. Designed and custom-built by Amazonians, our Dash cart uses a variety of technologies including computer vision, weight sensing, sensor fusion, and advanced machine learning. Key job responsibilities

As a Mechanical Engineer within our team, you will engage with a skilled and accomplished cross-disciplinary staff to conceive and design innovative technologies. You will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to drive key aspects of technology solution definition, execution and validation. Some of the key job functions of the mechanical engineer include:

• Serve as the technical lead for mechanical sub-systems and components through the entire product development life cycle, from inception and roadmap through design

• Design and validate sub-systems and components to meet program schedule

• Provide detailed design and validation documentation for design reviews and release

• Function as a subject matter expert on investigating a variety of mechanical and manufacturing technologies by providing up-to-date, accurate information to colleagues and management

• Manage the technical relationship with internal & external vendors & partners to deliver new components to the required specification and schedule

A day in the life

On a given day you will… a. dive deep into engineering design ownership: designing system architectures and components, creating proofs of concept, getting ready for prototype build cycles or tooling/component releases, preparing for design reviews, running simulations. b. Spend time in the lab: building & testing prototypes in collaboration with colleagues, leading investigations into issues. c. Provide leadership to the team in meetings and hallway conversation: reading peer documents and contributing to constructive debate about solutions to difficult challenges, contributing to the refinement of team best practices.

About the team

Our HW-ME team is a mix of different experience levels and backgrounds – we all pride ourselves on being able to work on any challenge, across the different system functions and incorporating different engineering disciplines. But, we all also develop a specific subject matter expertise, mutually agreed upon within the team, in order to grow our own (and the team’s) breadth and depth.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering (or similar field) and 8+ years of experience in the consumer or industrial electronics industry as a mechanical design engineer

• Experience with design tools including Solidworks and/or ProE/Creo

• Experience with FEA, DFMEA, and statistical analysis tools

• Experience with thermal analysis, product validation, and materials process validation

• Prior experience with delivering products into mass production

• Experience in engaging, working with, and managing vendors and suppliers to deliver in fast-paced technical environment

Preferred Qualifications

• MS in mechanical engineering

• Analytical and methodological root cause analysis and troubleshooting skills including DOE and 8D

• System design interfacing to a wide array of electro-mechanical and opto-mechanical sub-systems

• Experience designing with plastic injection molding and tooling, aluminum castings & sheet metal parts

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to executives and non-technical leaders

• Prior experience with weight sensing, load cells, strain gauges is a strong plus
