Join Takeda as a Senior Automation Engineer where you will be a leader designing and implementing automation solutions ranging from simple devices to fully integrated workcells. As a model of best practices, creative thinking, and problem-solving, you will lead complex projects and mentor other members of the team. You will also join lab automation (hardware) with informatics (software and data) through individual contributions and cross-team collaboration. . As part of the Global Biologics Automation Team (GBAT), you will report to the Head of the team and help build the world’s leading automation infrastructure to support the world’s leading Biologics discovery organization, including the build-out of new automation systems and maintaining existing ones.

How you will contribute:

  • Collaborate with Global Biologics (GB) scientists to design, develop, optimize, and implement new automation solutions for Global Biologics teams, focusing on the selection, production, screening, and characterization of therapeutics across various modalities.

  • Develop custom software solutions integrating automation platforms with GB’s informatics stack.

  • Lead and manage complex projects, including fully integrated workcells. This includes requirements gathering, system design, adjusting to stakeholder feedback, vendor management, procurement coordination, and software/data integration. Can work independently and reduce complexity to prioritized tasks. Completes projects on agreed timelines.

  • Introduce innovation to the Automation Team. This might include advances in CAD, 3D printing (or other fabrication techniques), electronics, software, system monitoring, or the application of AI/ML. Effectively shares knowledge with the team and mentors junior members through matrixed leadership.

  • Learn GB workflows and processes to the level that enables them to be effective and forward-thinking about automation solutions.

  • Respond to automation users’ needs in real-time to enable them to advance GB projects.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • PhD degree in Life Sciences, Engineering, or relevant scientific field (or equivalent) with 2+ years relevant experience, or MS with 8+ years relevant experience, or BS with 10+ years relevant experience.

  • Demonstrated advanced fluency with at least one of the following robotic schedulers: Cellario, Overlord, Green Button Go, or Momentum.

  • Demonstrated advanced fluency with at least one of the following liquid handlers: Dynamic Devices Lynx, Tecan, Hamilton, Agilent Bravo.

  • Programming fluency in Python or C#.

  • Successful projects using at least two of the following: CAD, Arduino microcontrollers, CNC machining, or 3D printing.

  • Able to work independently on complex projects. Able to manage time and priorities effectively.

  • Able to communicate clearly, especially with less technical colleagues and to collaborate across teams.

  • Experience with vendor management.

U.S. Base Salary Range:

$133,000.00 - $209,000.00

The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.

U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/ or long-term incentives. U.S. based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others. U.S. based employees are also eligible to receive, per calendar year, up to 80 hours of sick time, and new hires are eligible to accrue up to 120 hours of paid vacation.
