Tufts Medicine Division Chief of General Obstetrics and Gynecology in Boston, Massachusetts

Tufts Medical Center and Tufts University School of Medicine , in Boston, Massachusetts, are seeking a Division Chief of General Obstetrics and Gynecology to lead our specialty OB/GYN practices in Boston, Braintree, and Norwood as well as Hospitalists teams in Lowell and Boston. This Chief will play a pivotal leadership role in growing and shaping the strategy and operations of women’s health across Tufts Medicine. The Tufts Medical Center Division Chief of General Obstetrics and Gynecology reports directly to the Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

In this role, they will coordinate and collaborate with the leaders of the related services, supporting strategic imperatives of the academic mission within our system including basic and clinical research, undergraduate and graduate medical education, and faculty development.

The Division Chief of General Obstetrics and Gynecology will promote the continual assessment of health equity, and partner with an administrative leadership dyad to establish strategies and tactics that ensure equitable access for all populations and communities to OB/GYN services at Tufts Medicine. The Division Chief of General Obstetrics and Gynecology will participate in the development of practices that focus on continuous quality improvement, efficient clinical delivery, and maximizing patient value. Working closely with other academic leaders, the Division Chief of General Obstetrics and Gynecology will also lead educational efforts to train the next generation of Obstetrician/Gynecologists and to support research that advances reproductive and family health and wellbeing.

Our specialty practices in Boston, Braintree and Norwood provide holistic OB/GYN care to our communities. The establishment of the Asian Access OB/GYN Clinic reflects the commitment to culturally sensitive healthcare, offering services in various languages to meet the unique needs of the community. The Maternal Fetal Medicine program supports families facing high-risk pregnancies. Our gynecology specialists in family planning, minimally invasive surgery, and urogynecology work across our system, providing care close to home whenever possible. Finally, our gynecology oncology division plays a prominent role in the cancer program and supports all of Tufts Medicine as well as providing care as far north as Portsmouth, New Hampshire and throughout Massachusetts.

Department Research & Education

  • Department faculty and residents are actively involved in many clinical trials and laboratory research projects with the goal of advancing all facets of reproductive healthcare. Areas are broad but include diabetes in pregnancy, cervical insufficiency, HPV prevention, gender disparities in academic medicine, food is medicine, and inequities in access to surgical interventions.

  • Our Mother Infant Research Institute (MIRI) aims to enhance the lifelong health of women, mothers and babies using a multidisciplinary approach. Research focus areas include reducing the adverse effects of prenatal exposures (e.g. obesity, opioids, stress), bioengineering solutions to prevent premature birth, and cervical cancer prevention. Our holistic view of patients, their families and communities positions us to reduce inequities and improve health outcomes across generations. We envision a future where patients can make informed decisions for their and their children’s long-term health through advanced diagnostics and personalized treatments.

  • Research is supported by the Tufts Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI), the largest CTSI in the United States.

  • We are the principal teaching health system for Tufts University School of Medicine. Tufts Medicine and Tufts University School of Medicine endeavor to train tomorrow’s leaders in healthcare, supporting a cohort of 24 OB/GYN residents at our main campus. Additionally, we offer Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Gynecology Oncology Fellowship programs.

  • A physician leader with a successful track record of program development and academic success in OB/GYN programs.

  • A mentor with a proven track record of supporting the professional and academic accomplishments of others.

  • Board certified in at least one OB/GYN specialty.

  • Eligible for an academic appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level.

  • Knowledgeable in healthcare quality, resource/financial management of a large organization, outcomes improvement, patient safety, and positive patient experience.

  • Able to build and foster effective teams that are diverse and inclusive and that are focused on advancing the Vision and Mission of the OB/GYN Department and respective services.

  • Capable of promoting an environment of accountability and continuous performance improvement by establishing and monitoring concrete performance measures to drive achievement of targeted outcomes.
