WSP USA BIM Specialist, Mechanical in Boston, Massachusetts
This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for a full time BIM Specialist, Mechanical for our Boston, MA office. Be involved in projects with our Transportation and Infrastructure (T&I) Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.
The BIM Mechanical Specialist works as part of the T&I mechanical design team supporting the virtual design construction (VDC) team with model management assistance, administration, and maintenance. The position requires a working knowledge of Revit software and BIM 360 software.
The BIM Specialist, Mechanical position uses technical knowledge of BIM and CAD software (BIM360/Revit/Navisworks/AutoCAD) to develop mechanical system designs contract plans for Transportation and Infrastructure (T&I) projects.
Your Impact
BIM/Revit
The ability to work both independently and collaboratively to interpret, develop and design models using 3-D BIM/CAD drawing standards with Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, and/or AutoCAD.
Create initial Revit project setup and prepare model for the production team.
Create and updates BIM/Revit technical documentation.
Assist with model development, management, support, administration, and maintenance.
Collaborate with a large, multi-discipline project team across multiple companies, participate in BIM coordination meetings.
Develop mechanical systems (HVAC, plumbing, fire protection) contract layout drawings showing elevations, sections, and detail views.
Develop Revit families for project needs (model, annotation, etc.).
Develop and maintain a catalog of standard details, Revit families, and system types for mechanical systems (HVAC, plumbing and fire protection).
Create plan sets that conform to client CAD/BIM standards.
Consult and coordinate with mechanical engineers and other disciplines engineers/designers (architecture, electrical and structural) to develop system design layouts, details, and to resolve technical and other clashes and conflicts.
Able to manage drawing lists, files, and to prepare drawing index sheets.
Manage and maintain client, drawing and modelling standards for different projects.
Lead the drawing submission process for mechanical projects, including coordinating with other BIM/project managers.
Mechanical Design
Assist Engineers/Designers in design layout of the following: mechanical, plumbing, fire protection systems, and assist electrical engineers with electrical production as needed.
Prepare engineering drawings from rough sketches or from general engineering and design information using BIM/CAD platforms.
Support Engineers during construction phase with submittal reviews and RFI responses.
Able to visualize and develop detailed design drawings for equipment layouts, equipment supports, piping supports, and equipment details.
Create and manage Revit families for the mechanical discipline
Assists Engineers/Designers on field surveys as required to obtain pertinent information for design.
Resolve model issues and errors.
Able to visualize and develop detailed design drawings for equipment layouts, equipment supports, piping supports, and equipment details.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
HS Diploma.
Proficiency in Revit MEP and experience in the design and layout of mechanical systems including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
CAD Certificate.
5+ years of experience using Revit MEP for design of mechanical systems.
Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, BIM 360, Navisworks Manage, and Bluebeam Revu software.
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity and experience setting up project models.
Experience with CAD programs such as AutoCAD and MicroStation.
