Job Description
The Department of Audiology at Tufts Medical Center is seeking a full time clinical Audiologist immediately. This clinician will be responsible for providing specialized comprehensive diagnostic audiologic services to populations across the lifespan. Interest is traditional amplification and surgical devices is highly preferred.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Obtains a comprehensive case history for each patient through patient-family interview and/or review of medical records.
Selects and administers appropriate diagnostic tests to determine degree, type of hearing loss, site of lesion and effect hearing loss has upon communication.
Interprets and reports audiologic findings to patients, families and referral sources.
Makes decisions as to the appropriateness of amplification and/or ALDs.
Counsels patients and families regarding hearing disabilities; make referrals for medical and/or educational evaluations and makes referrals for (re)habilitative therapy.
Prepares a written report of each audiologic patient visit to document and/or expedite patient care.
Provides audiologic testing in coordination with various pediatric Otolaryngology clinics in addition to your own outpatient schedule.
Provides occasional didactic training to Otolaryngology residents.
May perform other job related duties as required or requested.
Qualifications
Job requires an in-depth, advanced understanding of the auditory and vestibular system and the theoretical basis and rationale for audiologic tests used.
Strong skill-sets in pediatric diagnostic testing necessary for busy ENT clinics and outpatient coverage including BOA, VRA and CPA. Strong background in diagnostic ABRs necessary (i.e. unsedated, sedated and OR ABRs).
Cochlear Implant and other implantable device experience highly preferable.
Skilled in pediatric amplification fitting and verification a must.
Must be able to make accurate independent decisions regarding tests to be administered and the interpretation of those tests while following established clinic protocols.
Excellent written skills necessary for detailed report writing.
Must have excellent interpersonal skills in order to effectively communicate with patients, hospital staff and outside referral sources.
EDUCATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:
Must meet the requirements for the Certificate of Clinical Competence as specified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and possess a Massachusetts license to practice audiology.
Doctoral degree with a minimum of 2-3 years of experience preferred; recent AuD graduates considered.
WORKING CONDITION/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Normal office work environment. Outpatient patient care area and occasional inpatient care area. No heavy lifting required.
