Interior, US Fish and Wildlife Service Program Specialist (Wildland Fire Health and Wellbeing Coordinator) in Boise, Idaho

Summary This position is located with the FWS, Headquarters, Assistant Director, National Wildlife Refuge System, Branch of Fire Management located at the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC), in Boise, Idaho. Responsibilities Participate in interagency efforts to develop all-encompassing firefighter wellness programs and adopt best practices for FWS Fire Management. Establish and maintain relationships with interagency partners (e.g., the Federal Wildland Firefighter Health and Wellbeing Program, Forest Service Casualty Assistance Program/CISM program, and other DOI fire bureau programs). Facilitate the implementation of initiatives and augmenting efforts that promote health and wellness in the wildland fire community. Expand and develop the FWS wildland firefighter health and wellbeing program. Coordinate FWS firefighter behavioral and physical health training efforts. Represent FWS Fire Management on the National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) Mental Health Subcommittee and other related groups. Coordinate fire related CISM and Peer Support efforts (e.g. attend monthly Interagency CISM calls, liaise with the FWS Peer Support program, expand the Peer Support “fire cadre") Develop a FWS and/or interagency Family and Hospital Liaison program. Manage the DOI Wildland Firefighter Medical Standards program for FWS firefighters and lead efforts to develop and expand medical surveillance efforts for firefighters. For GS-13: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: Progressively responsible experience that demonstrates ability to manage a behavioral health program and/or other health-related program(s) and develop and recommend behavioral health policy to higher levels of an organization. Holding a clinical or program management position in behavioral or mental health treatment programs. Serving as peer support or Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) team leader or member, or equivalent mental health crisis support response model. Instructing and/or coordinating health and wellbeing training sessions. Participation in a medical standards or medical surveillance program. Ability to maintain confidential medical information. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Public Land Corps (PLC) Hiring Authority PLC eligibility requirements: Served as a qualified youth on an appropriate conservation project completing a minimum of 640 hours of satisfactory service that included at least 120 hours through the PLC and received a certificate of non-competitive eligibility. Completed most recent Corps service, for which a certificate of non-competitive eligibility was issued, within the last 2 years. Appointment must be effected within the 2 year period. Permanent Change in Station (PCS): Travel and relocation expenses will be paid consistent with the Federal Travel Regulation, Chapter 302, and Departmental policy. Selectee will be responsible for tax obligations related to payments for moving expenses - 2017 Tax Cuts and Job Act, Public Law 115-97.
