R1 RCM Manager Insurance & Risk Operations in Boise, Idaho

As our Manager of Insurance & Risk Operations, you will be responsible for serving as a key point of cross-functional contact for our corporate support and operations teams with a focus on risk reporting, evaluation, and mitigation across all onshore and offshore operations.

On a daily basis you will work closely with R1’s management to understand and anticipate risks in order to determine the resulting mitigation efforts, including insurance protection. As a member of the company’s global Audit & Risk team, you will deliver day-to-day management, execution, and coordination of the company’s insurance and risk operations programs, including and relating to: Insurance policies, coverages, and renewals; Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA); Workers’ compensation; Claims management; Automobile and workplace accident/employee safety; and Loss prevention. As our Manager of Insurance & Risk Operations, you will be expected to engage with other segments of the company’s Audit & Risk team which is part of the broader Compliance & Risk organization led by the Executive Vice President, Chief Risk & Compliance Officer. Further, the candidate will work regularly with the Compliance & Risk organization as well as Legal, Finance, and Human Resources.

To thrive in this role, you must have demonstrated ability and comfort working with and reporting to a broad spectrum of service lines and professionals, ranging from senior management to front line site and service leaders to clients and vendors. In this role, the successful candidate will support the comprehensive strategy and growth plans to ensure that the company exhibits and maintains a robust and proactive insurance and risk operations program. The Manager of Insurance & Risk Operations will report to the Senior Director, Risk Management.

Here's what you will experience as the Manager of Insurance & Risk Operations:

  • Analyze, identify, and estimate the financial impact to the company, and address risks affecting the business;

  • Work with insurance brokers and carriers to obtain appropriate domestic and international coverages, report claims and, in doing so, oversee management of claims;

  • Ensure contractual insurance requirements are met by existing policies and, as appropriate, explore alternatives for purchasing additional coverages or for transferring risk by alternative means;

  • Research applicable regulatory requirements and best practices on a regular basis to facilitate the development/implementation of risk strategies/programs and achieve more favorable outcomes and liability risk reduction;

  • Evaluate and compare estimated risks with company-established criteria, including costs, legal requirements, Regulatory, and environmental factors;

  • Develop policies and procedures aimed at mitigation of risk across the company;

  • Track vendor certificates of insurance and their business continuity and disaster recovery plans to ensure contractual compliance with customer contracts;

  • Serve as subject matter expert for insurance-related issues and interface with Legal, Human Resources, Finance, External Auditors, and other department personnel as needed;

  • Keep current, through industry forums, government agency websites, and other literature with respect to key updates and/or changes to applicable statutes, regulations, and laws;

  • Identify and implement performance and process improvements while working to adopt best practices;

  • Assist with the execution of risk assessments, as needed, in conjunction with the department’s work plan and areas of focus, to monitor and promote compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and guidelines;

  • Attend and/or lead, as requested, company and client committees and workgroups as related to the position’s core responsibilities;

  • Build strong relationships with clients, employees and consumers that promotes trust and respect, demonstrates exemplary leadership and deep subject matter expertise; and,

  • Drive operational excellence that results in improved quality and customer satisfaction.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, with relevant work experience in business or risk management, or equivalent experience of more than 5 years in a similar role managing risk operations to include insurance coverages for organizations of similar size and scope to R1. Finance-related degree, certification, or prior related work experience preferred;

  • Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in insurance and risk management positions;

  • Strong knowledge of insurance and risk management practices, including management of ERM programs or tools;

  • Experience procuring insurance and working with insurance brokers;

  • Experience with filing and management of claims with carriers and resolving carrier claim issues with legal assistance;

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills;

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presentations and the ability to communicate with all levels of management;

  • Ability to coordinate and influence others while working across the organization;

  • Particular experience in insurance and risk management related to a healthcare environment preferred;

  • Formal risk management training, is preferred;

  • Effective computer skills including Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

For this US-based position, the base pay range is $46,500.00 - $104,629.00 per year . Individual pay is determined by role, level, location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
