Summary Statement

Instructs and coaches youth and adult hockey classes as well as assists with coaching of house league youth teams. Provides a high level of customer service to all customers. Junior Hockey Instructor position is open to all interested persons age 16 and older.

This position is designated as At-Will.

Essential Functions

Instructs and coaches adult and youth hockey classes and teams, follows plans from the Hockey Department, prepares ice for practice by checking nets and ice for safety hazards, mobilizes on-ice training aids. Answers questions from parents, guardians, and players regarding practice plans; resolves problems or refers to appropriate personnel for answer or resolution.

Performs other duties as assigned. Nothing in this job description restricts management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this position at any time.

Requirements

Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training

  • 3 years experience playing league hockey.

Knowledge of:

  • ice hockey rules and regulations;

  • fundamentals of ice hockey including skating, shooting, passing, etc.;

  • general customer service techniques.

Ability to:

  • interpret and apply various rules and regulations;

  • maintain good relations with coaches, officials, parents, and players;

  • interact with the public and co-workers in a friendly and professional manner;

  • display an attitude of cooperation and work harmoniously with all levels of City employees, the general public, and other organizations;

  • communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance;

  • complete assignments in a timely fashion;

  • understand and comply with all rules, policies, and regulations;

  • maintain prompt and regular attendance; and

  • perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor, and/or manager with or without reasonable accommodation.

Licensing And Other Requirements

  • USA Hockey registered member

  • Willing to become a level 1 USA Hockey Certified coach, which includes continuing coaching education.

Physical Efforts

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently lifting/carrying up to 10 pounds and rarely lifting/carrying up to 20 pounds. Also, the employee is frequently pushing/pulling up to 10 pounds. The noise level is frequently moderate and rarely loud. Work includes sensory ability to talk, hear, and touch. Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. Employees will sit, stand, walk, run, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, climb, and balance. Position requires hand/finger dexterity. Additional physical efforts include: position will frequently be skating on ice.

Working Environment

The work environment will include inside conditions and outdoor weather conditions. Work includes protected exposure to bodily fluids.

19-Hour Temporary

All temporary part-time employees working less than an average of 19-hours per week are not currently eligible for benefits.

4-Month Temporary

All 4-month temporary employees working an average of 40-hours per week will accrue personal leave which can be used during employment.

8-Month Seasonal

In addition to accruing personal leave, anyone in an 8-month seasonal position working over an average of 30-hours per week is eligible for medical coverage.

9-Month Temporary

In addition to personal leave accrual and medical coverage, a position that is classified as a 9-month temporary is eligible for PERSI retirement benefits.
