Summary:
The Idaho Department of Correction is currently recruiting for a Maintenance and Operations Supervisor. The incumbent will oversee hiring, training and evaluating maintenance personnel, direct special events, reading and maintaining blueprints and plans; evaluate maintenance needs of buildings and related facilities and supervise staff. This announcement will be used to fill a vacancy at the South Boise Complex, for one or all of the following to include South Boise Women's Correctional Center (SBWCC), Idaho Maximum Security Institution (IMSI), Idaho State Correctional Institution (ISCI), South Idaho Correctional Institution (SICI) and Idaho State Correctional Center (ISCC), Mountain View Transformation Center (MVTC).
Responsibilities:
Hires, trains, and evaluates journeyman maintenance personnel in multiple shop trades and related functions.
Evaluates contractors' work; determines staff needs.
Prepares cost, time, and manpower estimates and bid contracts and schedules jobs.
Selects, orders, and receives supplies and materials.
Directs special event set-up and maintenance.
Estimates costs for budgeting and monitors expenditures.
Evaluates equipment and facilities for useful life expectancy and replaces or schedules maintenance.
Plans and implements changes and procedures for general energy conservation.
Examines building interior and exterior and determines type and amount of maintenance work needed.
Performs maintenance work related to trades areas on a back-up basis.
Uses a variety of tools and equipment associated with building maintenance work.
Directs safety code compliance, maintenance of records, and employee training regarding safety issues.
Subject to after hours, weekends, and holiday callouts.
Minimum Qualifications:
Good knowledge of building maintenance and operations functions; building energy conservation techniques; building codes and related regulations. Typically gained by at least four years of training and/or experience where required to perform a majority of building maintenance work; should involve exposure to all trades - carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting; energy conservation, etc.; following building codes and regulations.
Some knowledge of EPA and OSHA related safety codes and practices. Typically met by an eight-hour training course on EPA and OSHA related safety codes and practices, or related training while working in building maintenance activities.
Experience supervising staff and training employees in maintenance activities. Typically gained by at least one-year experience as a lead worker, or supervisory experience that involved work assignment, direction, and monitoring of staff, AND training staff how to perform maintenance activities and monitoring workmanship. Please include dates of employment, positions you supervised and for how long, and level of supervision (such as leadwork only or full supervision with authority to hire/fire, give raises, completion of performance evaluations and so forth).
Experience performing carpentry, concrete placing, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC maintenance work, using tools associated with the trades. Typically gained by at least two years of experience in a variety of remodel or new construction projects using common carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and concrete placing equipment.
Experience scheduling and coordinating simultaneous remodel, maintenance and construction projects, reading and maintaining blueprints and plans; evaluating maintenance needs of buildings and related facilities. Typically gained by at least two years' experience evaluating building and related facility maintenance needs; interpreting plans and blueprints; and scheduling and coordinating simultaneous remodel and construction projects.
Valid driver's license.
Specialty Qualifications:
