Idaho Transportation Department is hiring aGeographical Information Systems (GIS) Analyst III for our Boise location. This position will plan, design, conduct, and oversee Geographic Information System (GIS) development and analysis projects and serve as the technical lead and/or subject matter expert in GIS technology and applications.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Leads the planning, management, and analysis for projects and ensures objectives are met upon completion
Coordinates with external partners to define data management needs, including metadata, define system requirements, and develop workflows to meet needs
Manages the technical design and development aspects of the organization's GIS to ensure the maintenance of programs that satisfy all users
Drives the development and maintenance of quality control programs for GIS
Mentors junior analysts and trains users on GIS applications
Leads and oversees projects and teams
May supervise
Project Management and Business Analysis
Lead the planning, management, and analysis for projects and ensures objectives are met upon completion
Coordinate with internal and/or external partners to define data management needs, including metadata, define system requirements, and develop workflows to meet needs
Gain familiarity with vendor management
Technology
Analyze existing technical infrastructure and proposed infrastructure changes to certify fit of proposed technology or determine and document architectural variance required
Analyze and document configuration options to accommodate operation, interface, and integration of multiple systems
Research and evaluate new technologies to provide recommendations to business areas
Development and Support
Oversee and provide day to day operational support of GIS databases and servers, perform server administration, GIS network and web performance, security of GIS and software and hardware, and end user support
Data integration, connect applications, transform data, and automate workflows, experienced with FME
Author, maintain and/or troubleshoot web and mobile GIS applications
Management
Participate in the design, development, implementation, and operation of information systems and data processing applications in support of the mission, goals, policies, procedures, and programs
Implement goals, policies, procedures, and performance indicators
Assist managers and staff in evaluation and selection of information processing equipment, software, and services
Provide for technical training and educational needs in information processing for department staff
Represent department on various task forces, committees, and study groups
May serve in a lead-worker role
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Considerable knowledge of
GIS including analysis, data capture and data conversion
Cartographic principles
Good knowledge of
GIS programming languages commonly used in the development of GIS programs
Database management
Web APIs
Experience
Planning, designing, and implementing GIS projects and preparing reports of findings
Operating, applying, and programming GIS software products in a work environment
