As a Financial Technician in the Employer Service Center, you will work directly with PERSI employers to provide accurate and timely information in a professional and meaningful way. You will report to the Accounting Manager and be the primary point of contact for PERSI employers. You will work together with the PERSI staff to build stronger relationships with our members at every step of their retirement journey. Additionally, you will be a key contributor in identifying areas to improve service for our membership.

A hybrid schedule (combination of in office and telecommute) may be available after the completion of the probationary period.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Incumbents use their professional background to reconcile and balance financial transmittal statements, financial and compensation records, and related documents.

  • Interact and provide instruction by phone with employer member payroll staff of varying levels of technical expertise.

  • Research and analyze data for accuracy, trends and variances to ensure business procedures have been followed as required by state and federal laws.

Minimum Qualifications(must be reflected in your resume):

  • Good Knowledge of:

  • Financial Record Keeping - This is typically gained with the successful completion one college accounting course and six months of work experience in accounting.

  • Experience:

  • Using computer application software to enter, retrieve, create, modify and produce financial data - This is typically gained with at least two (2) college level courses or training programs related to working with financial data (such as Microsoft Excel or QuickBooks) AND have six (6) months of experience using a personal computer to enter, retrieve and edit financial data.

  • Preparing financial summaries and reports - This is typically gained with a year of experience researching and compiling financial information and preparing summaries and reports.

  • Using Microsoft Office suite - This is typically gained by the successful completion of training in the use of Microsoft Office programs, including, Outlook, Word, and Excel; OR at least six (6) months of work experience using these programs as a frequent part of the job.

  • Preferred Qualifications (not required but helpful):

  • Experience reconciling, balancing and proofing financial data Independently applying policies, procedures or regulations in determining if financial transactions are in compliance - This is typically gained by at least one year of experience reconciling, balancing, and proofing financial data.

  • Experience analyzing computer generated financial data and taking corrective action - This is typically gained by at least two years of experience monitoring budgets, verifying accuracy of financial transactions and correction information as needed.

  • Experience interpreting, applying, and explaining financial data both verbally and in writing including explaining concepts to non-technical people - This is typically gained by at least one year of experience interpreting, applying, and explaining financial data both verbally and in writing including explaining concepts to non-technical people.
