As a Strategic Sourcing Component Engineer, we are looking to you to identify, qualify, document and release of cost-effective components from a variety of commodities for our products. In this fast paced and dynamic organization, it will be necessary for you to drive the component selection process and perform your work in a consultative manner as the domain expert.

You are capable of coordinating multi-functionally with groups such as Design Team, Strategic Sourcing Managers, Category Managers, Compliance and Material Engineering groups to resolve issues pertaining to component selection and build comprehensive views of supplier technology roadmaps and capabilities.

Role Responsibilities & Tasks

The candidate will be responsible for providing component engineering services to the functional engineering and strategic sourcing teams. As a Component Engineer, you will work closely with compliance team, mitigate single source and provide recommendation/guidance for DFC (design for cost) and DFM (design for manufacturing). This role requires a technical background to achieve effective and long-life component cycle solutions.

Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Work closely with engineering and strategic sourcing teams to select electrical components for new projects, including but not limited to, resistors, capacitors, all passive components, integrated circuits, connectors, enclosures, etc.

  • Liaise with various Hardware Design teams on component selection

  • Review design collateral, e.g. schematic, BOM and lay-out / part geometry

  • Provide support to design team regarding technical advantages, availability, risk and cost of various component choices throughout design process

  • BOM analysis using SAP, Teamcenter and Excel

  • BOM review for accuracy of part selections

  • Provide engineering support for component risk assessments on new designs

  • Offering solutions for 2nd sourcing of components accounting for a variety of factors like technical merit, risk and cost

  • Working with suppliers to develop new products aligned to Micron product needs

  • Provide technical leadership and direction during supplier meetings

  • Sharing of supplier data with Micron Engineering and non-Engineering customers

  • Managing supplier feedback and component details in tracking databases

  • Liaise with manufacturing to assure placement capabilities on all components

  • Manage BOM health for Micron SSD, Module, Managed NAND and Mobile designs

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required

  • 3 years of Component Engineering industry experience required

  • Ability to read design schematics and lay-outs required

  • Ability to read and interpret datasheets for Actives, Passives and Mechanicals

  • Understanding of electronic components both Passive and Active (e.g. Buck, Boost, PMIC, EFUSE) devices required

  • Understanding of power system devices and design (e.g. Buck, Boost and PMIC) required

  • Understanding of Printed Circuit Board properties and manufacturing process required

  • System level PCB design experience through work experience preferred

  • Experience with Schematic/Layout tools: Cadence - HDL Concept & Allegro Viewer preferred

  • Experience with BOM management systems like Teamcenter preferred

  • Experience with Bug Tracking system like JIRA preferred

  • Strong experience with Microsoft Office tools and specifically Excel required

  • Strong technical communication capability and problem-solving skills

  • Strong attention to detail and delivering a high-quality work product

  • The ability of working in a dynamic and changing environment

  • The ability to take on new challenges, adjust and deliver on commitments

  • The ability to handle the pressure of a fast-paced work environment

  • The ability to be a self-starter, works well in a diverse, multi-functional and cross-site team

The US base salary range that Micron Technology estimates it could pay for this full-time position is:

$85,000.00 - $166,000.00

Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries of the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional job-related factors, including knowledge, skills, experience, tenure and relevant education or training. Additional compensation may include benefits, discretionary bonuses and equity.
