Position Summary:

Florida Atlantic University is seeking an Education Coordinator for the Jaffe Center for Book Arts, which is part of the FAU Libraries’ Special Collections Unit - Boca Raton, FL.

The FAU Libraries have prioritized working collaboratively with the campus community on a Top 100/R1 research initiative that includes a highly library engaged campus and community environment. FAU Libraries house approximately 3.7 million items and provide access to over 80,000 electronic journals, nearly 500 databases, and a growing collection of e-books and streaming videos.

The Libraries house many distinctive collections, including artists’ books, sound recordings, print music, rare books and manuscripts, and University Archives. The Digital Library creates online collections from unique materials housed in Special Collections and University Archives and serves as the University's repository for the intellectual output produced on campus.

As a member of the FAU Libraries’ Special Collections Unit and reporting directly to the head of the Jaffe Center for Book Arts. This position will provide reference assistance to students, faculty, and staff using Jaffe Collection materials, schedule research appointments, class visits, and community group presentations, and assist with internal and external material requests, including donor requests and loans. The JCBA Office Manager will also be responsible for reporting statistics for the unit and assisting with yearly annual reports.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively within the Libraries’ Jaffe Center for Book Arts (JCBA) and Special Collections Unit on group projects and tasks.

  • Greet patrons and assist them with registration, requesting materials, and basic reference questions.

  • Design, update, and maintain the JCBA website.

  • Manage and supervise JCBA student workers and volunteers.

  • Work with Libraries’ Administration Office Manager and Business Manager to pay invoices billed to the Jaffe Center for Book Arts.

  • Respond to reference queries and provide e-mail and phone assistance.

  • Maintain office records, collect statistical data, and submit data for unit reports.

  • Serve as the point person for handling JCBA facilities issues, mail, office and archival supplies, equipment needs, and errands.

  • Inform the Special Collections Unit about any JCBA facilities issues.

  • Schedule patron appointments manage the Jaffe Collection and explain Jaffe Center for Book Arts’ unit policies to patrons.

  • Perform stacks maintenance, and page and re-shelve rare and fragile materials.

  • Assist as needed with programs at the JCBA: including assistance with class visits, community group visits, school field trips, and events.

  • Work collaboratively to further the Libraries’ Top 100/R1 initiatives.

  • Participate in Library and University Committees.

  • Assist with fundraising and workshop events.

  • Participate in Library Engagement Activities.

  • Actively pursue professional development opportunities.

  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization; or bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience required.

A valid Florida Driver's License required.

Preferred Qualifications/Skills:

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in Library Science, Archives, Liberal Arts, Visual Arts, Design or any of the Humanities, Public History, History, Business, or related fields.

MFA (Master of Fine Arts) Degree

Experience working in libraries or in an academic organization.

Ability to pay attention to details and meet deadlines.

Demonstrate level of customer service and response.

Demonstrate ability to work effectively independently and as a team member.

Demonstrate effective time management and organizational skills.

Demonstrate effective communication and collaboration skills.

Salary:

$37,500 - $40,000 per year.
