Summary:

  • The PennSTAR Clinical Education Coordinator is a critical role of the PennSTAR Leadership team. Their role provides education and clinical expertise to department employees, hospital employees and management, as well as pre-hospital organizations to develop strong working relationships to create a positive outcome for patients and the community. The Clinical Education Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, managing, monitoring and evaluating Flight and Ground Crew Orientation, Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Services (CAMTS), PEER Program and OR quarterly anesthesia rotations. The Clinical Education Coordinator will have management responsibility over applicable instructors and complete instructor evaluations, in addition to recruiting and training course instructors when applicable and assure credentials are current.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates the delivery of educational functions within PennSTAR Administers the PennSTAR Orientation Program by being the primary point contact for all new employees in addition to scheduling and assigning preceptors for orientation Instructs new orientees with initial aircraft/ambulance safety briefing and departmental policies Regularly reviews new employees' progress with preceptors and makes recommendations to Flight Crew Supervisor based on their analysis Communicates pertinent information regarding clinical practice and education Evaluate adequate mechanisms of clinical practice of patient care providers Serves as a certified instructor for American Heart Association training such as Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. In addition, serves as a certified instructor under the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians for the Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support certification

  • Leverage clinical expertise to facilitate delivery of high quality, coordinated, evidence-based care Involved in all administrative decisions affecting patient care Design and implement strategies to achieve high priority goals and communicates pertinent information regarding clinical practice and education to appropriate personnel Identifies and mitigates staff clinical practice issues and partners with Manager on remediation of crew members with clinical deficiencies In collaboration with management, carries out the process improvement and educational plans with staff completing documentation of remediation Coordinates with OR to schedule quarterly anesthesia rotation to ensure a minimum of 3 intubations for medical crew or confirms successful documentation outside of PennSTAR. Secures documentation from crewmembers of intubation. Completes audits of Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) according to the current standards of the American College of Surgeons or Transport Nurse Advanced Trauma Course (TNATC) in accordance with the standards of the Air & Surface Transport Nurses Association or equivalent Lead and manages Safety and QA Committees as appropriate Manage QM/QA/PI of the program

  • Develops educational programs and processes to promote professional development Directs individual professional development through mentoring, coaching and education Coordinates scheduling of speaking engagements and public relations activities Provides ongoing education based on program needs and requests from staff and management Builds partnership within the department and across diverse stakeholder groups through leadership, team building, negotiation and conflict resolution Coordinates local educational opportunities between pre-hospital community and general community

  • Serves as primary contact for licensure and certifications of employees Maintains accuracy of medical crew certifications and continuing education as well as securing copies of credentials to maintain in EMS database Ensures compliance with both mandatory hospital inservice as well as flight/ground specific inservices

  • Registered Nurse - PA (Required)

  • Registered Nurse - NJ (Required)

  • Driver's License (Required)

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required)

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (Required)

  • Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Sprt (Required)

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (Required)

  • PA Pre-Hospital Nursing (Required)

  • NJ Mobile Intensive Care Nurse (Required)

  • NJ Air-Medical Crew Member - Flight Nurse (Required)

  • EMT or NREMT-PARA (Preferred)

  • One or more of the following (Required):

  • CEN, CFRN, CTRN or CCRN

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science (Required)

  • Experience (Required):

  • 5+ years Full-time employment experience as an RN in a critical care environment

  • 5+ years Full-time employment experience as an RN in a critical care flight setting

  • 3+ years Documented teaching experience in a Nursing or EMS field
