Overview
At Cook Medical the Application Engineer role configures, implements and documents applications that provide the technical solutions to meet specifications and business requirements defined by company objectives to promote effective, efficient, and compliant operations. This position is focused on performing application engineer duties that are critical for supporting Oracle Fusion Cloud ERP. A person that would be successful in this role will have had experience working with Oracle Fusion Cloud ERP and understand this highly customizable platform that is to be tailored to our specific business needs. This role will be a vital member of a team working to integrate Oracle Fusion Cloud with our environment that contains a mix of legacy and third-party applications. An application engineer in this role provides ongoing support and troubleshooting in collaboration with team of functional leaders and architects. This role will also have responsibility for ensuring data integrity, security, and compliance as well as monitoring system performance. At times this role may also step in to provide education and training to end users as required. A person that would be successful in this role would be driven by the desire to hone and improve their Oracle Fusion Cloud ERP skills, be unafraid to seek clarity and definition when it is missing, thrive in a team-oriented environment, communicate well with both technical and non-technical partners, and find it engaging to know our Oracle Fusion Cloud implementation inside and out providing value to our business and ultimately our patients.
To be an effective application engineer for Oracle Fusion Cloud, several key skills are essential:
Experience with enterprise application configuration and implementation.
Experience with integrations between applications and databases.
Integration Skills: Experience with integration tools and techniques, such as Oracle Integration Cloud, REST APIs, and SOAP web services, is vital for connecting Oracle Fusion Cloud with other systems.
Database Management: A solid understanding of database concepts, including Oracle Database, is essential. Skills in database design, optimization, and troubleshooting are important.
Technical Proficiency: A strong understanding of Oracle Fusion Cloud applications is crucial. Familiarity with cloud architecture and services is also important.
Programming and Scripting: Experience with software development or scripting languages preferred. Knowledge of scripting languages like Python or Shell can be beneficial for automation tasks.
Project Management: Experience in project management methodologies, such as Agile or Scrum, can be beneficial for managing and delivering projects effectively.
Responsibilities
• Work as part of a project team to define and document the solutions for a variety of projects. • Technical responsibility for all stages of solution configuration to ensure compliance with application standards, architectural standards, and achievement of documented requirements. • Develop and maintain current state documentation and deliverables for solutions. • Maintain existing and new applications to ensure that they continue to meet user needs. • Provide assistance to operational teams to ensure continuity of service. • Work with the Application Engineering community of practice to identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities. • Must have excellent analytical and problem solving skills • Performs other duties as assigned

Additionally, as applicable,
Proper setup and configuration of modules
Customizing (where/when applicable) workflows, reports, and user interfaces to fit unique business processes
Setting up user roles, security, and permissions based on business policies
Developing and managing integrations using Oracle's tools (e.g., Oracle Integration Cloud)
Ensuring seamless data exchange, ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes, and API management
Addressing issues related to data inconsistencies or communication failures between systems
Diagnosing and resolving technical issues like system errors, performance bottlenecks, or integration failures
Identifying root causes for bugs, working with Oracle Support if needed, and ensuring minimal system downtime
Performing root cause analysis and preventative measures to avoid recurring issues
Ensures a smooth transition during upgrades by testing the new releases in a sandbox environment
Validates that business processes and customizations still function correctly after an upgrade
Applies patches for performance improvements, security, and new features
An application engineer configures and monitors data encryption, backup, and recovery processes
Ensures compliance with industry standards or regulatory requirements
Manages role-based access control, data segregation, and auditing features to maintain data security
Assists data teams for optimal database and application performance
Collaborates with IT teams to ensure load balancing, batch job management, and system tuning to prevent slowdowns
Analyzing transaction logs, database health, and system resource utilization to improve performance
The application engineer supports user training by creating documentation and, when applicable, leading training sessions
Assists in change management when new features, processes, or updates are introduced, ensuring minimal disruption to operations
The application engineer works closely with IT Workstream Functional Lead and Technical Architect to understand changes in processes and reflect them in the ERP system
Manages workflows, automations, and customizations to adapt to new business requirements
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or other related degree; or experience of such kind and amount as to provide a comparable background.
Experience with enterprise application configuration and implementation.
Experience with integrations between applications and databases.
Experience with software development or scripting languages preferred. Demonstrated organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage tasks independently and take ownership of responsibilities.
Physical Requirements:
• Works under general office environment conditions • Sitting for extended periods, utilizes close visual acuity for working with computers, equipment, etc. • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job, subject to reasonable accommodation requirements under the ADA
• Requires occasional early morning or late evening teleconferences • International and domestic travel as required
