Position Summary

As a Sr. Controls Engineer, this position assumes overall responsibility and accountability for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all electrical distribution and controls infrastructure throughout the Bloomfield Factory. This includes the management and implementation of the Factory Electrical Master Plan and the implementation of all CAPEX projects associated with the Electrical Master Plan as well as responsibility for scoping, developing, implementing, and commissioning the electrical & controls infrastructure and programming for new projects and the improvement of existing processes. This position will directly manage the salaried Controls Technical Team, which provides 24/7 coverage for factory operations, weekday support for projects and initiatives, and high-level troubleshooting support. This position will also be responsible for managing remote and on-site electrical and controls integration contractors and assisting the factory Maintenance Manager in the development of electrical and controls competencies for the maintenance technicians.

Principle Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Safety: Provide primary responsibility to ensure all new and modified equipment complies with all relevant NPPC electrical Safety Instrumented Systems design, programming, and validation; Maintain the Electrical Safety Master Plan to achieve compliance for factory legacy processes and equipment; Assist in the management of the Electrical Safe Work Practices program for controls and maintenance technicians.

  • Reliable & Efficient Factory Operations: Work with various managers, technicians, engineers, and operators to solve existing issues and continuously improve existing processes through process improvements and projects. Provide high-level troubleshooting assistance to controls and maintenance technicians as needed. Provide guidance and develop plans, training, and assessments to improve competencies of controls and maintenance technicians. Provide guidance for the implementation and improvement of preventative and predictive maintenance strategies for all factory electrical and controls equipment.

  • Capital Projects: Manage and execute the Factory Electrical Master Plan. Work with Factory Staff Engineers, Divisional Engineering resources and key Contractors to scope, develop, implement, and commission the electrical and controls functions for all capital projects. Provide guidance to ensure capital projects meet all relevant standards. This includes providing direct control design, programming, and support, as well as coordination and oversight of external controls contractors.

  • People Development: Manage the day-to-day activities of the Controls Technical staff and provide strategic plans for the continuous development of their competencies.

  • Strong experience with Rockwell ControlLogix, CompactLogix, GuardLogix and Rockwell FactoryTalk ViewSE required.

Other duties:

  • Capable of S.I.S. (Safety Instrumented Systems) design, programming, and validation.

  • Server and in-depth knowledge of FactoryTalk architecture.

  • Continually seek out and apply new methods, procedures, and technology to improve plant performance, quality and efficiency.

  • Design PLC, HMI, instrumentation and electrical systems and applications for cost effective plant operations.

  • Strong PLC and HMI programming experience is required, as this position will require complex troubleshooting as well as development of well-written standard code.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Discipline

  • 6+ years’ experience in electrical engineering, electrical and control system design, programming, startup, and troubleshooting in a manufacturing, industrial, military, or related environment.

The approximate pay range for this position is $110,000-$150,000 annually. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Final compensation may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as geographic location.
