Position Title: Student Intern - Construction Management (Summer 2025)

Position Purpose:

Provide assistance with onsite construction management, administration, and coordination for new and existing construction projects. This includes ensuring work is conducted in a safe manner while delivering on budget and on time. The incumbent is assigned to a project and works on location for the duration of the assignment. In times of minimal workload, the incumbent may be required to work from the headquarters facility in Bismarck, ND.

Essential Functions:

  • Shadow a Construction Coordinator as they provide oversight of job site construction management.

  • Assist in the oversight of job site construction management to assure projects are managed effectively and the company’s needs are being met.

  • Assist with coordinating onsite construction activities between the owner, engineer, contractor, and other involved parties.

  • Observe contractor work practices and notify the project lead construction coordinator of any practices that appear to be non-compliant with the contract documents.

  • Assist in the Request for Information (RFI) and Change Order Request (COR) process execution on assigned projects.

  • Review contractor reports for performance on safety, quality, progress, and cost.

  • Attend project meetings to review project achievements and deficiencies.

  • Adhere to BEPC Construction Management policies and procedures as they materialize.

Qualifications :

  • Basic knowledge of construction procedures, materials, and equipment.

  • Enrolled as a full-time student in a two-year construction management program or related program with at least one year completed; or

  • Enrolled as a full-time student in a bachelor’s degree program in construction management, or an Engineering Accreditation Commission/Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET) accredited construction, civil, mechanical or electrical engineering program, or related field with at least two years completed.

  • A minimum of a 2.5 grade point average (GPA) is preferred

  • Good verbal and written communication skills; and technical writing skills.

  • Proficient with personal computers, Microsoft Office, Adobe, Excel, and Outlook.

  • A valid driver’s license.

  • Resume required.

Typical Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands:

This position requires occasional bending, climbing, kneeling, reaching, crawling, pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds and lifting/carrying up to 25 pounds; and frequent sitting, standing, walking, and use of keyboard/computer. Finger dexterity, good hearing, and color vision are required. This position requires the ability to analyze data/reports and conduct research; implement recommendations; develop plans, procedures, and goals; and present information to others. The incumbent may be required to work under pressure due to conflicting priorities and deadlines. Typically, this position works in conditions of dirt/dust, extreme heat/cold, noise, and electrical risks. It may also occasionally work in conditions of fumes, chemicals, vibration, poor ventilation, and confined areas. Continuous travel is required, either by operating a motor vehicle or traveling in cooperative or commercial aircraft. The ability to operate a motor vehicle is required. All project assignments require extended overnight stays involving several days, weeks, or months.

Wage: $26 per hour
