The role of the test manager is to enable the smooth technical deployment of zero trust access solutions to protect BT. You will be responsible for validating and verifying that the solution works at scale and providing confidence into the project team.

This role follows hybrid working and requires 3 days in the office (choice of Birmingham, Manchester or Ipswich)

What you’ll be doing

  • Owns the test strategy in support of the deployment of Zscaler across the business

  • Implements the full lifecycle integration testing to support project deliverables

  • Leverages automated test tooling to provide greater depth and breadth of test coverage

  • Undertakes first level diagnostics, diagnosing defects against components using techniques and tools defined in the test strategy, identifies defects against the correct component in multi-component journeys, writes test specifications and test designs (scripts) and runs the test scripts to time cost and quality

  • Supports the team within its defined area to develop reports on accuracy, quality and errors in test diagnosis against the associated business or customer KPI’s

  • Executes automation, functional, regression and load testing scenarios, applying solutions that validate the functionality of applications

  • Supports the maintenance of test suites and ensures high-velocity, high-quality production pushes using manual tests

  • Supports the communication of complexities of internal systems to help test against known issues

  • Assesses and suggests ways to mitigate risks that have an impact on the quality of products and services

  • Supports in the implementation of ways to improve working processes within the area of QA engineering responsibility

  • Supports and adheres to the project related KPIs

Skills Required for the Role

  • Planning and strategy: Developing comprehensive test plans across different solutions to ensure quality and reliability of deliverables. Reporting on test activities and outcomes.

  • Collaboration: Working closely with developers, customer stakeholders, Bas, PMs to ensure testing is fully aligned to business needs

  • Software testing: experience in large scale test activity to derisk project delivery, including both automation and manual testing.

  • Programming scripting: has the ability to utilise scripting/basic coding to assist with test activity

  • Continuous Integration: able to adopt CI/CD principles to repeatedly validate the solution

  • Agile: Able to work as part of an Agile team, working in short iterations to deliver value with a focus on ensuring quality is considered early in the cycle and regularly validated

  • Risk management: Proactive in identifying potential risks in the testing process and developing strategies to mitigate them

  • Self starter: able to work out what needs to be done in a complex situation and set a direction for self

  • Creative thinker: able to think around a problem and come up with creative solutions

  • Understanding of current Cyber Security threats to our industry & motivation to protect BT from malicious adversaries.

Experience Required for the Role

You will have strong self-management skills , an ability to liaise with senior stakeholders, delivery teams and project management to champion a quality driven approach to delivery

Ability to drive QA and testing strategy , define scope and approach to testing, with a focus on early lifecycle testing, release management, quality gates, test management and defect reporting, test environment and test automation requirements

Testing tools and techniques

  • System integration and system test planning, development and execution

  • Performance testing

  • Test progress reporting, test completion reporting

  • SW engineering

  • Automation techniques using commercial tools or scripting languages such as Python

  • Continuous integration pipelines

  • Knowledge of APIs

System Management

  • Zscaler awareness

  • Utilise Linux command line to carry out trouble shooting and diagnostic procedures (eg through Linux system logs, interface diagnostics etc)

  • Basic system resource monitoring and application management

  • Windows server

Qualifications

  • Ability to obtain or have a testing qualification such as ISTQB test professional
