Job Title: Senior Roadway DesignerJob Description

We are seeking a Senior Roadway Designer who has a strong understanding of industry standards of the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in managing multiple projects while ensuring quality control and assurance measures are met. This role involves traveling as dictated by projects, clients, and company functions, and representing the firm in all aspects of projects and assignments to prospective employees, clients, and communities. The candidate should possess extensive diversified knowledge of ALDOT and be capable of building client relationships and assisting with client development using technical expertise.

Responsibilities

• Manage multiple projects while maintaining quality control and assurance measures.

• Travel as required by projects, clients, and company functions.

• Represent the firm in all project and assignment aspects to prospective employees, clients, and communities.

• Apply extensive diversified knowledge of the Alabama Department of Transportation standards.

• Build client relationships and assist with client development using technical expertise.

• Ensure the accuracy of technical aspects of projects.

• Help manage a team and oversee a few projects.

Essential Skills

• Proficiency in MicroStation design platforms, particularly Open Roads.

• Strong knowledge of ALDOT guidelines, specifications, drawings, and organizational standards.

• Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal.

• Ability to prepare and maintain records, and produce reports, documents, and correspondence related to the work.

• Attention to detail and aptitude to make design decisions.

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.

• Professional Engineer (PE) registration in Alabama.

• Minimum of 10 years of experience in roadway engineering.

• Experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

• Valid driver’s license for occasional travel to project sites.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with the Alabama Department of Transportation is a plus.

• Ability to work in a team environment and manage a team.

Work Environment

This position can be based in either the Huntsville or Birmingham office, with periodic trips to local job sites as required. The role involves working in both office and outdoor environments, depending on project needs.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $100000.00
