The OR Room Tech in the Operating Room provides essential support to the surgical team, ensuring the smooth operation of procedures by assisting with patient care, anesthesia turnover, and maintaining the cleanliness and readiness of the operating room environment. The OR Room Tech plays a crucial role in helping to maintain a safe, efficient, and sterile environment for both patients and healthcare providers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Anesthesia Turnover Support:
• Assist anesthesia providers with preparing and setting up anesthesia equipment for the next procedure.
• Clean, disinfect, and restock anesthesia machines and monitoring devices between cases.
• Prepare and restock anesthesia carts and supplies as required.
• Assist with transferring patients to and from the operating room, ensuring safe handling.
• Help position patients on the operating table as directed by the surgical team, ensuring comfort and safety.
- Operating Room Turnover:
• Clean and disinfect operating room surfaces, equipment, and instruments between cases to maintain a sterile environment.
• Set up surgical instruments and supplies for upcoming cases as directed by the surgical staff.
• Remove used surgical instruments and supplies after procedures and transport them for sterilization.
• Ensure the operating room is stocked with necessary linens, sterile supplies, and equipment.
- Patient Care:
• Assist with the safe transportation and surgical positioning of patients intra-operatively.
• Provide basic patient care under the direction of nursing staff, including hygiene and comfort measures.
- Environmental Maintenance:
• Ensure operating room equipment is clean, functional, and properly stored after each procedure.
• Follow infection control protocols to minimize the risk of contamination.
• Maintain the organization and cleanliness of supply rooms, ensuring supplies are stocked and readily available.
- Collaboration and Communication:
• Work closely with surgical, nursing, and anesthesia teams to anticipate needs and support a seamless workflow.
• Communicate patient information and operating room status updates to appropriate personnel.
Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in a healthcare setting preferred, especially in surgery or patient care.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
• Strong communication, teamwork, and attention to detail skills.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to lift and transport patients and equipment.
• Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
• Ability to work in a sterile environment while wearing appropriate protective equipment.
This position is vital for ensuring patient safety and supporting the efficiency of surgical procedures in the operating room environment.
