Cybersecurity Resource and Planning Analyst

Schedule: M-F

Location: Primarily remote/hybrid 20% in office – Atlanta or Birmingham

Position Summary:

Southern Company, a major U.S. energy firm, is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented analyst within its Technology Security organization. This candidate will directly support the organization by ensuring proper use of departmental resources. This pivotal role is responsible for maintaining and managing the enterprise capital budget for the technology security organization, ensuring financial efficiency and compliance across several departments. The ideal candidate will lead the spend governance committee, oversee procurement processes, and manage all budgeting and reporting needs for the security group as they relate to the enterprise budget. Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Resource Coordinator: Ensure resources are adequately assigned and billing appropriately to security initiatives.

  • Budget Management: Assist Technology Security senior leadership with management of their budgets and help ensure capital and expense targets are met.

  • Financial Oversight: Ensure financial alignment with organizational goals. Ensure accuracy and compliance with actuals, accruals, projections and other financial reporting.

  • Governance Leadership: Lead internal spend governance committee to ensure effective financial oversight and decision-making. Ensure solutions are approved within budget and are held to their budget. Prepare materials and conduct periodic meetings with affiliates to review ongoing initiatives, discuss upcoming initiatives and review YTD actuals and projections. Prepare materials for budget meetings and serve as the technology security representative in interdepartmental meetings.

  • Purchase Order Oversight: Lead weekly meetings with Vendor Management, Strategic Supplier Management and Technology Planning Analyst to review purchase order submissions for legitimacy and necessity and to ensure submissions are fulfilled in a timely manner. Assist with the development of quotes for security enterprise expenditures.

  • Metrics: Track and manage all renewals for security-related contracts and services and provide general oversight. Track and report on spending metrics, comparing actual expenditures to budgeted amounts.

  • Primary Contact: Represent the security group in meetings with other budget leaders, advocating for the department's financial needs. Serve as the primary contact for budgeting and reporting needs within the technology security organization. Create an environment that fosters accountability, innovation, and engagement at all levels.Establish and maintain excellent working relationships and partnerships across the Technology Organization functions, business partners, and external vendors and suppliers.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to conceive and present creative solutions.

  • Special projects: Plan, coordinate, and lead information security projects as requested and actively participate on assigned special projects.

Requirements and qualifications:

  • Proven experience in budget management, financial planning and analysis, and resource planning, preferably within the technology or security sectors.

  • Ability to provide metrics on cybersecurity solutions based on cybersecurity frameworks (i.e. NIST) and strategic alignment to business objectives.

  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships within the company and industry, as well as with vendors/suppliers.

  • Effective written communication skills that can proficiently tell a financial story utilizing tools such as PowerPoint.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Exceptional organizational and multitasking abilities.

  • Experience prioritizing and executing with minimal direction or oversight.

  • Proficiency in financial software and tools, such as Excel, SAP, Oracle, or similar platforms.

  • Industry certifications preferred (CISSP, CISA, CRISC).

  • Project management experience preferred.

  • Must pass NERC CIP & Insider Threat Protection background checks.
