Hoar Construction Crane & Hoist Technician in Birmingham, Alabama

The Crane & Hoist Technician is responsible to help maintain the hoist/crane and equipment fleet and support repairs and operation both at the Warehouse and in the field at construction sites. The purpose of the position is to properly maintain and repair cranes/hoists and other construction equipment in order to maximize its return on investment. This position with work to have all available equipment serviced and ready to deploy into the construction field at time of need. He/ or She will also be available for any field service calls where expedited service is needed to support the construction projects and help them maintain schedule. In this role, you may be required to travel up to 60% of the time.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee, plan, and participate in crane/hoist erection and dismantle including any climbing and/or tie-in procedures.

  • Inspect & maintain cranes/hoists or equipment in accordance with maintenance schedules.

  • Perform repairs (including emergencies) away from the shop to return crane/hoist or equipment to operation, or to assist in returning crane/hoist or equipment to the shop for further repair. Order and collect necessary parts to make repairs. Test the equipment repair and report the completion status to the site Superintendent and Warehouse administrative personnel to create any billable charges invoice.

  • Create and maintain all required service records.

  • Clean and maintain cranes/hoists, vehicles, equipment, tools, and the general shop area.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of two years’ experience as a Crane/Hoist Technician / Maintenance Specialist or similar experience preferred

  • A verifiable combination of education and experience equivalent to four years’ experience in maintaining and repairing cranes/hoists and/or erected equipment preferred

  • Skill in using computerized diagnostic equipment and precision measuring instruments preferred Strong background in electrical troubleshooting preferred

  • Extensive knowledge of the principles, methods, tools and equipment used in the repair of cranes/hoists and erected equipment preferred

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Knowledge of all applicable safety standards, rules, laws, and procedures preferred

  • Knowledge of all State and Federal crane/hoist laws and regulations preferred

  • Knowledge of crane/hoist electrical and computer-controlled systems preferred

  • Knowledge of welding methods

  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematic diagrams

  • Ability to acquire increasingly complex mechanical skills

  • Valid Drivers’ License Required

  • Valid DOT Medical card required
