B.L. Harbert International is seeking an Attorney for our International Group located in Birmingham, Alabama. Candidate will report directly to the Vice President of Legal Affairs for the International Group. Candidate must be willing to travel both domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities:

  • Offer counsel and advise executives on a variety of legal issues
  • Develop and negotiate requests for equitable adjustment (REAs)
  • Collaborate with operations leaders to identify and mitigate risk
  • Research and anticipate unique legal issues that could impact the company
  • Consult with or refer matters to outside counsel as required
  • Advise on contract status, legal risks, and the legal liabilities associated with different deals
  • Provide training to the company on legal topics
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government security clearance
  • Degree from an accredited law school, strong academic credentials and licensed to practice law
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in an in-house setting or law firm, with practice primarily focused on construction or government contracting related issues
  • Proficiency in legal research including Lexis, Westlaw and other research tools, as well as file and document management technology

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others at all levels of the organization
  • Strong negotiating skills with both legal and financial/commercial issues
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong relationships within the organization's legal department and across all businesses

Preferences:

  • Construction and/or engineering related degree
  • 5+ years of relevant experience

Physical Demands:

To perform the duties of this job, the employee must:

  • Have the ability to repetitively use hands to grasp, reach above and below with arms, and work overhead
  • Have the ability to stoop, bend, walk, kneel, crouch and crawl
  • Have the ability to lift, carry and/or move up to 25 lbs. of weight in the form of paper, boxes, files, etc.
  • Have the ability to sit for extended periods with occasional standing required
  • Possess the manual dexterity to operate office equipment, filing, and perform specialized skills
  • Possess a high degree of concentration necessary in a busy office environment
