About the Opportunity

The Contracts Officer working in the Operational Commercial Team shall support the Commercial Manager and Head of Commercial to provide commercial management to the D&RS Business in the delivery of the business’s objectives and ensuring that work tendered and undertaken is on a sound commercial basis in accordance Jacobs commercial policy.

Key aims and objectives:

  • Provide commercial support to the D&RS business.

  • Support pre-contract commercial matters, including tender preparation and approvals in accordance with Jacobs policies and procedures

  • Support effective post-contract commercial management of projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accountable to the Commercial Manager for compliance with Jacobs DOA Matrix, policies and procedures.

  • Support the operations teams to ensure all tenders and resulting agreements are in accordance with Jacobs commercial governance and approval processes.

  • Have a good understanding of key contractual terms and conditions and able to identify key risks and mitigations.

  • Undertake initial review of client terms and conditions and advise of any commercial issues whilst working closely with Commercial Manager/ Legal as necessary to support negotiation and approvals of client terms.

  • Be able to administer existing frameworks including gaining agreement with key stakeholders on variations to rates and provide support to the Business Unit in relation to other contract amendments/variations as necessary.

  • Maintain accurate contractual records of key Framework Agreements and ensure information I accurately recorded on the appropriate system for internal/external auditing purposes.

  • Stakeholder management between Operations, Legal, Finance, Tax, Insurance etc from a commercial perspective.

  • Planning and prioritising delivery of commercial support to meet delivery timescales.

  • Attendance at lower level Green Reviews and being able to come back and recommend approval or otherwise, whilst ensuring internal governance is followed.

  • Support the delivery teams in providing effective change control and management early warnings and variations.

  • Advise the Commercial Manager of the emergence of commercial problems in good time including being able to produce written recommendations for consideration.

  • Able to maintain good relationship management of stakeholders both internally and externally.

  • Other commercial support to the specific requirements of the business.

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • Preferably degree educated(or equivalent) in commercially related discipline

  • Significant experience in a commercial role preferred

  • Good communication skills

  • Good understanding of commercial law

  • Experience in competitive tendering and commercial risk management

  • Ability to develop relationships and building a network of commercial contacts

  • Appreciation of customer business and commercial drivers

  • Preferably some experience/capability to work with varying forms of contract, for example NEC, FIDIC etc

  • Ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and changing priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Broad range of IT skills
