SUNY Broome Community College Professional Tutor Part Time in Binghamton, New York

Professional Tutor - SUNY Broome Community College is seeking applicants for Professional Tutor in the Learning Assistance Department. The Professional Tutor assists and guides students in their coursework, providing academic support and integrating study & learning strategies to promote independent learning. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Attends the mandatory training sessions. Meets and works with students in small groups and may provide support for drop-in tutoring. Provides content based learning activities to enrich and support course content. Provides students with tools to assess their study habits and make suggestions as needed. Provides students with study strategy suggestions and tools to become active learners. Provides students with academic support in all levels of curriculum pertaining to their discipline. Meets with Instructors to discuss tutoring and student progress as needed. Attends staff meetings and in-services as required. Serves as a resource for other tutors in that respective discipline. Makes referrals to campus services as needed. Maintains daily/weekly time sheets. Other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Requirements: A Bachelor's Degree in a related field required. One year of experience working with students in an academic setting, preferable. Required Skills: Strong communication skills. Patience. High level of reliability, commitment & responsibility. Ability to relate well to students and staff. Training: Participation in initial training and ongoing tutor development activities as required. Additional Information: The hourly rate for this position is $29.90 an hour. Offers of employment will be conditional based upon the results of a satisfactory, required pre-employment Standard Background Check.
