Budget Title: Instructional Support Associate (SL2)

Salary: $41,328 (10-month, college-year)

The Department of Chemistry at Binghamton University (State University of New York, (https://www.binghamton.edu/chemistry/) invites applications for a full-time, Chemistry Lab Technician position. Duties support the teaching functions of the department's Instructional Chemistry laboratories. This position will support the teaching function of the Chemistry Department by:

  • Setting up instruments, and preparing chemicals and reagents for the instructional chemistry teaching laboratories

  • Daily distributing and clearing of chemicals for labs

  • Maintaining records and files of instrumentation and chemicals for the instructional chemistry labs

  • Assisting on the management of the instructional chemistry stock rooms

  • Assisting on the management of the instructional chemistry common areas

  • Attaining knowledge of general lab safety, health and safety practices and protocol for waste disposal

  • Providing training and work direction to student employees

  • Assisting and supervising undergraduate students and graduate teaching assistants during laboratory sessions

  • Assisting in the development of new lab exercises

  • Participating in necessary institutional functions such as, but not limited to, departmental and university committees

    Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related field is required

  • Must have the ability to lift at least 30 lbs

  • Core hours for this position are 11am-7pm to correspond with instructional needs

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with general lab safety, health and safety practices and protocol for waste disposal
