Guthrie HVAC Technician - Plant Services - Full Time in Binghamton, New York
Position Summary:
The HVAC/R Technician is responsible for continuous and reliable operation, maintenance and repair of all major HVAC/R systems, including ice machines, all refrigeration equipment, generators and related equipment and appliances maintained by RPH Maintenance. Demonstrates cost effectiveness by proper use/care of equipment, appropriate and prudent use of supplies, accurately recording labor and supply charges appropriately utilizing available resources.
Education, License & Cert:
Required: High school diploma or equivalent, EPA 608, courses in refrigeration.
Preferred: Courses in refrigeration, electrical controls, blueprint reading, mathematics and/or engineering related physics Licenses: Must have valid driver’s license required for travel to various facilities. Must have EPA Universal Certification. During orientation period, employee may be required to participate in a "Powered industrial truck operators" course (#78‐199 published by NIOSH) and be able to interpret and exercise all information and rules set forth in the regulations. This must be renewed by incumbent annually.
Experience:
Four years of experience required in HVAC/refrigeration service.
Must demonstrate skill in HVAC operation, maintenance repair, and basic understanding of other trades through on‐the‐job training.
Basic computer operation skills required.
Must have advanced knowledge of all applicable OSHA standards, i.e., Right‐to‐Know, Lock‐out Tag‐out, ladder safety, and other standards required.
Demonstrates knowledge and ability to work alone to solve problems and/or when called upon and can take the lead on a given job with a mechanic.
Must be able to read, comprehend, and transmit complicated, detailed instructions in writing and orally for effective interaction with administrative, medical, and supervisory staff, patients, architects, contractors, and vendors.
Essential Functions:
Cleans, lubricates, services, repairs, installs, and diagnoses malfunctions of HVAC/R equipment, sterilizers, laundry and dietary equipment, ice makers and refrigeration equipment, electrical system and other plant specialty equipment such as boilers and chillers.
Operates and maintains hot water boilers, steam boilers, chillers, pumps, air handling units, water softeners, compressors, medical gas system, alarms, motors and emergency generators to insure the comfort and safety of patients, staff, and visitors while maintaining the systems, equipment and facilities in a clean, safe operating condition in accordance with local, state and federal regulations and department policies.
Read meters and gauges of automatic recording devices at specified intervals to verify operating conditions and record data such as temperature of equipment, hours of operation and fuel consumption.
Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory guidelines, requirements, standards and codes required of healthcare facilities to include, but not limited to, NFPA, TJC, AHCA, UBC, ADA and OSHA.
Assists in making decisions on all normal and minor repairs and reports major problems to the Plant Operations Supervisor.
Reads blueprints and models to learn work layout and plans own work layout, making routine computations as needed and attends mandatory in‐services as required.
Performs water treatment tests and takes corrective action on a daily basis.
Identifies system failures and troubleshoots plant equipment in detail to restore to operating or contain problem.
Maintains logs, performs rounds, complete p.m. work orders, tests, and inspections. Makes recommendations for modification or improvement of preventive maintenance systems. Operates and maintains facilities automation systems, such as Johnson Controls Metasys.
Carries out periodic maintenance functions for Pneumatic tube system under direction Pneumatic/Electronic technician.
Other Duties:
Maintains shops, mechanical spaces, patient areas, etc. in a clean safe manner.
Responds to emergencies in the facility, makes emergency repairs as needed and is part of weekend/holiday rotation to provide 24/7 coverage of the Power Plant and Hospital.
Assists in removing snow from facilities grounds and maintains grounds as required.

Pay Rate Ranges from $21.03 - $32.84 per hour
