Budget Title: Senior Staff Assistant (SL-3)
Salary: $55,151
Reporting to the Associate Director, the GIS Specialist and Public Safety Coordinator shall assist with the implementation of a comprehensive emergency management program.
This position assists with the coordination and facilitation of all aspects of the Office of Emergency Management, with particular emphasis on GIS mapping and publicly accessible life safety equipment including Automated External Defibrillators, Stop the Bleed and Narcan. It requires coordinating multiple, complex priorities in a demanding, fast paced environment. The successful candidate is expected to possess strong organizational skills and function with a high level of discretion, independence and leadership.
Duties:
Collect, analyze and display GIS data using applications including: Survey123, Field Maps, StoryMaps, Microsoft and Adobe products
Create public safety maps, applications, and dashboards using ArcGIS Online
Collaborate with campus departments on GIS-specific projects
Coordinate Binghamton University's life safety equipment, including Automated External Defibrillators, Stop the Bleed equipment Narcan
Participate in the development and implementation of emergency management instructive trainings, seminars and presentations
Design, develop and distribute public information and education materials to enhance community awareness and preparedness
Prepare reports, procedures and documentation which support emergency management functions
Provide ongoing support to faculty, staff and student groups in their preparedness efforts
Create and maintain partnerships with community associations and organizations
Assist with the coordination of emergency response activities with external partners
Represent the Office of Emergency Management in meetings, events and exercises
Act as a member of the University's Emergency Response Team and Incident Management Teams
Respond to assist with campus emergencies
Be available to work outside traditional working hours, including occasional nights and weekends
Job Requirements:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
Work experience in an emergency management program
Demonstrated proficiency with Esri desktop and online products, including ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online
Must possess a valid/clean driver's license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State
Excellent organizational and analytical skills
Capable of working under strict deadlines and changing priorities with minimal supervision
Capable of lifting 20 pounds and traversing campus in various weather conditions
Fluent in Microsoft Office and Google Suites
Completion of FEMA ICS trainings 100, 200, 300, 700 & 800
Preferred:
Master's degree in public administration, emergency management, geography, or a related field
Experience working in higher education emergency management
Experience with inventory management software
Completion of FEMA ICS 400
Possession of a Remote Pilot Certificate for drone operations under the FAA's Small UAS Rule (Part 107)
