Avangrid Service Company Associate Engineer in Binghamton, New York

TITLE: Associate Engineer

LOCATIONS: NY - Kirkwood - JACC , NY- Rochestor , CT- Orange

SALARY RANGE: 69260 $ to 86576$

Major Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Has entry level understanding of Distribution Power Systems and Engineering Design (e.g. modeling, symmetrical components).
  • Develop distribution system power flow model for the purpose of studying the interconnection of generation and storage using CYME Software utilizing Avangrid Distribution Planning Guides.
  • Analyze and assess complex DER distribution system interconnections at numerous voltage levels. Document and communicate results and recommendations as appropriate including data interpretation, report writing, and summary presentations.
  • Analyze and assess complex new customer connections to the distribution system at numerous voltage levels. Document and communicate results and recommendations as appropriate including data manipulation, report writing, and summary presentations.
  • Ability to solve interconnections impact related problems with guidance from senior engineers.
  • Ability to process, manipulate, understand, and represent data produced by analytical software, contained in power system study reports, or extracted from databases.
  • Develop thorough understanding and application of Distribution Planning tools used in day-to-day basis such as GIS (SMWeb, SmartMap), SAP, Load Data systems, etc.
  • Develop and apply a thorough understanding of various planning criteria, guidelines, standards (e.g. AVANGRID Distribution Planning Criteria, IEEE Standards, ANSI Standards, DER Interconnection Standards and Guidelines, etc.) and analysis software packages such as CYME, PSS/E, SYNERGY, and ASPEN.
  • Continually strive to innovate and integrate improvements to increase the precision and efficiency of distribution planning.

Other supporting tasks may include:
  • Represents the department and the company on various industry related committees.
  • Serves on specialized internal and external cross-functional teams, as necessary, to develop engineering solutions and customer satisfaction.
  • Clearly and effectively communicates the results of analyses and action plans both verbally and in writing to internal and external stakeholders
  • Assist during storm restoration efforts

Job Requirements:

Education & Experience Required:
  • BSEE Degree
  • 0 - 2 years of relevant experience
  • Initial knowledge of electric distribution power systems and planning
