Budget Title: Staff Assistant (SL-2)
Salary: $49,261 - $51,000
The Assistant to the Chair provides a broad range of professional administrative support to the Chair of the Art History Department. The Assistant to the Chair is assigned the task of coordinating the business aspects of the department. Both functional and administrative supervision is exercised over a small work / study support staff. General supervision is received from the department Chair, and most work is verified. Typical responsibilities include:
Assisting in the planning and preparation of the department's budget request
Maintaining office budget, and monitoring Art History budget in general, for discrepancies
Handling all personnel transactions
Assisting with recruiting of new faculty and students
Supporting the department's academic mission, including course building, maintaining student files, etc.
Providing liaison between the department Chair and the professional staff of Binghamton University (Harpur, Registrar, etc.) with respect to administrative matters
Maintaining departmental website and electronic mailing lists
Supervising the department's social media accounts
Developing database of departmental alums
Providing information and reports necessary for Chair to make informed decisions regarding all aspects of running a department
Job Requirements:
Bachelor's degree
Good communication skills
Computer literacy in Microsoft Office (especially Word and Excel)
Attention to detail and a positive attitude
Preferred:
Two years of responsible work experience demonstrating knowledge and understanding of office administration, organization, coordination, facilitation, bookkeeping and /or report writing
Visa sponsorship is not available for this position
