Budget Title: Senior Staff Assistant (SL-3)

Salary: $55,151 - $58,000

The Assistant Director for Native American and Indigenous Student Initiatives will be a part of the staff of the Multicultural Resource Center (MRC), which is the largest office within the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Binghamton University. The MRC serves more than 90 culturally diverse student organizations on campus. The ideal candidate will join the MRC staff which is composed of an assistant director, coordinator, and office manager in addition to graduate and undergraduate student staff. The Assistant Director will report to the Director of Intercultural Affairs.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop educational initiatives for students and the campus community relating to Indigenous communities, including the Haudenosaunee Nation.

  • Develop recruitment initiatives for Native American/Indigenous students, which requires traveling during recruitment periods.

  • Organize and lead the annual Haudenosaunee Nation festival events.

  • Provide marketing, communication, and outreach efforts in the greater community and MRC initiatives.

  • Serve as a facilitator for MRC student programming.

  • Coordinate and conduct public presentations to promote MRC services, programs and collaborative activities.

  • Develop a comprehensive programming calendar in advance of each semester that includes signature programs and events that are connected to heritage months, celebratory days, and current events/relevant topics.

  • Work collaboratively with other MRC staff to coordinate programs and manage communications with the campus community and the greater community regarding announcements and activities for diverse populations.

  • Supervise graduate assistant, paraprofessional and volunteer staff.

  • Provide support and advise cultural student groups where possible, more specifically but not limited to Latinx, Native American/Alaskan Native, cultural Greek-lettered student organizations and others as deemed appropriate.

  • Work with faculty and staff across the campus to provide greater support to students.

  • Compile quarterly reports and annual reports for the center on programming conducted in the center and in collaboration with campus partners and the greater community.

  • Maintain the budget relating to Native American/Indigenous programming

  • Provide support and oversight of the three sisters garden.

    Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Sociology, Social Work, Psychology, Ethnic or Cultural Studies, or a relevant field.

  • Demonstrated experience working with a number of diverse groups and constituencies, representing a variety of identities including, but not limited to: African/African American/Black, Arab/Arab American, Asian/Asian American/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American/Alaskan Native, Multiracial, International, religiously diverse, LGBTQ, and/or other diverse identities in a higher education environment.

  • Experience conducting campus-wide programs and event development, organization/community building and/or advising.

  • Willingness and ability to observe a variable schedule, including occasional weekend and evening events.

  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects simultaneously in a time-sensitive environment.

  • Must be detail and service oriented.

  • Programming and leadership experience.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

  • Excellent written, oral, interpersonal communication, and organizational skills.

Preferred:

  • Master's Degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs Administration, Ethnic or Cultural Studies or a relevant field.

  • Professionals with a minimum of two years progressively demonstrated experience in cultural student and/or community programming in a fast-paced environment.

  • Assessment reporting experience on the effectiveness of initiatives that impact cultural student persistence in higher education or community engagement.

  • Experience in collaborating with community organizations.
