Schedule: M-F 7a-730p, Sat-Sun 9a-5p

Employment Status: Full-Time (.75 or greater)

Hours per Pay Period: 1.00 = 80 hours (Non-Exempt)

Starting Wage DOE: CUSTOM.POSTING.WAGE

Under general supervision, assists in the delivery of patient care/treatment and provides clerical and administrative support. Works collaboratively with the Physician, Non-Physician Provider, RN, LPN, and other departmental personnel to meet the physical, psychosocial, educational, and spiritual needs of the patient and family.

Essential Job Functions

• Supports and models behaviors consistent with Billings Clinic’s mission, vision, values, code of business conduct and service expectations. Meets all mandatory organizational and departmental requirements. Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental, and outside agency standards as it relates to the environment, employee, patient safety or job performance.

• Prepares room, equipment and supplies as dictated by a particular examination, patient’s needs, and Billings Clinic exam and procedure room cleaning guidelines.

• Assists with scheduling admissions, appointments, diagnostic tests, treatments, procedures, and surgery. May assist with registration and/or collection of co-pays.

• Screens incoming telephone calls for appropriate referrals to nurse, physician and/or non-physician provider.

• Orders and maintains clinical and office supplies and equipment as directed.

• Maintains patient files, records and other information. Adheres to confidentiality requirements.

• Compiles statistical data for reports as directed.

• Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.

• Receives and prepares patient for examination and treatment as directed. Obtains and records history and vital signs. May assist in preparing for minor procedures and physical exams. Charts and documents in medical record. Collects laboratory specimens as needed.

• Cleans and disinfects equipment per Billings Clinic sterile processing guidelines.

• Administers influenza vaccine, pneumococcal vaccines, and Td/TDAP to patients age 18 or older.

• Provides instruction to patients as directed by physician, non-physician provider or documented in policies and procedures.

• Performs all other duties as assigned or as needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Anatomy

• Medical practice, patient care treatment, planning, and evaluating according to job description and MA level

• Examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures

• Medical terminology

• ICD and CPT procedure coding and related reimbursement issues

• Medical equipment and instruments

• Common safety hazards and precautions

• Regulatory standards

• HIPAA and confidentiality requirements

• Patient rights

• Required medication and its application

• Aseptic technique and infection control

• Safe pharmaceutical handling requirements and guidelines

• File and record keeping systems

• Personal computers and CIS applications, including necessary registration functions

• Process for collection of co-payments

• Interpersonal skills necessary to interact with patients, families, and physicians

• Demonstrate empathy and sensitivity necessary to elicit patient’s cooperation and allay apprehensions

• Assisting in a variety of treatments and procedures as directed

• Maintaining records and recording data

• Application of safe pharmaceutical handling requirements and guidelines

• Application of personal protective equipment (PPE) for patient and staff safety

• Incorporate population specific needs into all aspects of communication and patient care; scope of services will encompass age groups ranging from infant through geriatric

• Utilize time management concepts or maximize time effectively

• Interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures

• Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing

• Utilize service recovery effectively

• Assist patients in and out of wheelchairs

• Analytical skills necessary to organize daily work, interpret data, and maintain simple to moderate complex records

• Handle frequent interruptions

• Under the supervision of a physician, initiates and performs patient care/treatment as governed by the Board of Medical Examiners and according to Billings Clinic Medical Assistant job description, policies and/or procedures.

• Scheduling and organizing procedures to maximize patient convenience and to maximize effective utilization of physician’s or non-physician provider’s time.

• Orientation on safe pharmaceutical handling requirements and guidelines performed under the preceptor supervision to ensure checks for quality and accuracy

• Under the supervision of leadership, involved in process improvement or risk related departmental activities

• Oversight for safe pharmaceutical handling requirements is provided by the physician

Minimum Qualifications

Education

• High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience

• Six (6) months related work experience in a health care environment required to develop proficiency in basic Medical Assistant procedures and processes encompassing all age groups, preferred.

Certifications and Licenses

• Required to obtain certification or registration within fifteen (15) months of hire thorough Billings Clinic approved organization.

• If coming from a medical assisting program; must be obtained within 90 days of program completion
