KTVQ COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING - KTVQ in BILLINGS, Montana
KTVQ, the Scripps CBS station in Billings, Montana, is seeking an exceptional Director of Engineering to lead its technical team. In this pivotal role, you will guide the design, installation, and maintenance of cutting-edge technical systems and workflows to deliver world-class service to both internal and external business partners. With a proven track record in engineering management and a deep understanding of evolving broadcast technologies, you will ensure the station operates at peak performance and efficiency. WHAT YOU'LL DO: - Model and lead a culture of empathy, customer service, and leadership. - Lead the research, design, installation, and repair of all television, digital, OTT, Internet Systems, high-power RF systems, production environments, and all associated equipment using current platforms and protocols. Manage building facilities and grounds, including HVAC, power generation, and security systems. - Partner with the news department to develop, build, and support content workflow and support systems including integration and problem-solving software, hardware, networking, and infrastructure while facilitating a collaborative environment between newsroom and production control staff. - Motivate and manage a staff of professional and technical engineers, operators, and IT technicians. Develop and grow staff in technology and Scripps culture to meet the ongoing and future technological needs of the station and evaluate staff growth opportunities and assessments. - Establish and implement engineering policies and procedures. - Evaluate and maintain the spectrum and broadband usage of the facility. - Manage projects. - Plan, design, and document current and future broadcast and digital systems. - Collaborate with other departments to determine studio, transmission, and workflow needs. - Prepare and track capital, expense, repair, and maintenance budgets. - Use the company purchasing management system to purchase and track assets, services, and replacement cycles. - Evaluate equipment solutions. - Keep the station compliant with the FCC Rules and Regulations and related local, state, and federal regulations. - Perform other duties as assigned. WHAT YOU'LL NEED: - BS/BA in a related discipline or equivalent years of experience preferred. - Generally, 10+ years of experience in a related field preferred. - Prior managerial experience preferred. ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS: - May need to support demands such as tower operations in remote conditions. - Must be able to lift to 50 pounds. - Valid driver's license, good driving record, and ability to provide proof of insurance with the company-required insurance limits.
