Job Summary:

Seeking a talented Senior or Principal Systems Engineer (depending on years of experience in systems Engineering) to work in systems engineering team to lead US Government DOD full system engineering efforts in program and product development. In this role, you will work to understand customer needs, identify & manage performance requirements, and provide overall customer satisfaction. You will contribute technical expertise, drive innovation, oversee all technical work, including setting, maintaining design Specifications and requirements, and incorporating the latest design methods and tools to improve internal and external design practices. You will provide technical leadership in all phases of product development, including product definition, architecture, design, layout, and production support.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for leading full system technical activities on medium-to-large product or program development through complete life cycle.

  • Technical Conscience (Chief Engineer) of the Program, leading technical dialogues with customer counterparts in all phases of the program.

  • Responsible for developing System Engineering Management Plans (SEMP).

  • Responsible for creating and managing project and product specifications.

  • Provides Technical and Schedule Risk assessments to the Program office.

  • Oversee and ensure key subsystems specification flow-down. Proficient in Requirements analysis and decomposition. Ensures requirements are verifiable and testable. Able to allocate requirements to lower level specifications. Invokes appropriate Requirements tracking and compliance, executes necessary action plans and tasks to closure during design and test phases.

  • Responsible for translating and interpreting customer specifications to project engineering team through the design and test phase of the program.

  • Provide systems engineering leadership for ensuring optical, mechanical, software, and electrical design conformance to requirements of the overall system.

  • Working closely with program/project management, ensure the program/project compliance to the specification and on-time delivery within budget.

  • Ensure technical activities fall in program work scope.

  • Lead technical efforts on program KOM, SRR, PDR, CDR and TRR, PRR etc. Track Key Performance Parameters (KPPs) and generate/track action plans to ensure compliance.

  • Make significant contributions to technical presentations and technical reports, analysis, and proposals to customers.

  • Integrate innovative technical solutions to satisfy market and customer requirements including features, performance, cost, manufacturability, quality, and time to market.

  • Coordinate with external vendors on technical matters for both standard and custom products and development.

  • Contribute as a core member of the program or product development leadership team.

  • Lead & contribute to the development of new IR & EO sensor products in the areas of concept definition, radiometric systems design & analysis, Imaging characterization, image nonuniformity correction, optical engineering, performance modeling, and prototype performance validation.

  • Perform optical analyses and/or lead/contribute to optical systems development for the product groups.

  • Create specifications and test plans for systems with emphasis on sensor technology, optical systems, and system integration and test. Flow down system specifications to subsystems.

  • Lead or oversee US DOD System Verification and Validation Qualification. Develop test plans and procedures that verify all requirements of the System and subordinate specifications. Ensure Test Plans and procedures are achievable, practical, and affordable. Leads all failure analysis, root cause and corrective actions from Qualification testing to bring equipment/products into full compliance.

  • Responsible for planning out all system engineering staffing through all phases of the program. Collaborates with other engineering/quality functional disciplines on staffing recommendations.

  • Responsible for leading extensive laboratory testing and qualification efforts for new and existing optical systems and IR sensor products. Develop all necessary test plans, perform data collection, analyze data, and document results.

  • Provide business development support in the areas of new customer requirements analysis, proposal writing, sensor performance modeling and fielding technical inquiries.

  • Provide systems engineering support to manufacturing, transition to production and customer service groups as needed in support of existing products. Take a leading role in troubleshooting technical problems.

  • Mentor other engineers, technicians, and others supporting similar technical efforts.

  • Contribute to Intellectual Property development and/or author and/or make substantial contributions to technical papers.

  • Perform other job-related duties, as required.

Job Qualifications:

  • BS in engineering

  • For Principal systems Engineer, 12+ years direct Systems Engineering experience, 12 years or more relevant Systems Engineering experience on US DOD development programs.

  • Good understanding of Gimbal surveillance product development cycle

  • Full system engineering experience in development of large and complex products with EO/IR imaging sensors, Laser tracking & detection, fine and sophisticated mechanical and control subsystems, gimbal systems etc. DOD/Space system engineering experience is a plus.

  • Strong experience and capability in leading a multi-discipline engineering and quality team on new product development from conceptual stage to PDR, CDR and to LRIP.

  • Demonstrated experience in developing, maintaining, and tracking specification and requirements compliance matrix, risk identification and risk mitigation.

  • Experience in system modeling, analysis, design, and troubleshooting.

  • Experience in EO/IR imaging sensor/imaging system modelling, characterization, and test

  • Experience in leading or participating multidisciplinary engineering efforts (Mechanical, Thermal, electrical, firmware/software etc.)

  • Good communications skills and experience presenting to senior management.

  • Good persuasive writing skills

  • Good understanding of Laser rangefinder, Laser designator and their applications

  • A great collaborator.

  • Applicant must be a U.S. citizen and be able to obtain US Gov SECRET security clearance. Strong preference for someone that already has clearance.
