Holzer Health System Medical Records Technician in Bidwell, Ohio
Position Summary: Analyzes electronic health records for completeness and accuracy of specific patient and clinician documentation; resolves any reports/records that cannot be matched to the record; reviews all health records for potential quality issues; interprets and designates the proper destination for all internal and outside health records including: diagnostic test results, medical referrals, and other appropriate records into the patient's electronic health record (EHR); prepares, scans, and indexes health documents to the EHR according to established placement and labeling protocols, responds to internal and external requests for health records from numerous sources with proper authorization, including patients, attorneys, physicians, and other agencies; adheres to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA); Masters and performs all specified operational and technical level jobs within the department. Daily assignment varies to cover jobs during peak production, vacations, vacancies and extended medical leaves. This position is also assigned to assist management in organizing activities, assisting with training of new employees, chart certification and accomplishing special projects.
Education, Work Experience and Licensure:
· Required: High School Graduate or equivalent.
· Preferred: Knowledge of Imaging Processes. Experience with Windows, Excel, and Intranet/internet navigation tools as well as system content. Demonstrated interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Ability to handle difficult customers in stressful situations, resolve conflicts independently and within a team, as well as escalate to upper management when appropriate. Works independently and collaboratively with others and identifies opportunity for new work. Self-motivated, dependable, detail oriented, highly organized, and able to perform with a high-level of accuracy. Critical thinking/problem solving skills. Manages tasks, routes appropriately without involvement of supervisor. Ability to multi-task and independently prioritize tasks. Experience and knowledge working in an electronic medical record system, with Athens/Paragon experience preferred.
· Entry level knowledge of release of information pertaining to federal/state regulations and laws.
· Computer skills including Word, Excel and Power Point; inputting data entry/typing, copying.
· Calculations, manipulating numbers, interpreting numbers, analyzing, forecasting, assessing/evaluation, explaining/teaching, attention to detail, problem solving/reasoning and high degree of accuracy
· Ability to successfully train staff and create standard of work documents. Ability to work more than 1 service line or 2 or more revenue cycle functions or more than 1 site.
· Demonstrates competency in daily functions, interpersonal and cognitive skills required to meet essential job functions. Maintains knowledge related to product/service line, quality improvement, cost reduction, current registration and billing policy and procedures as well as scheduling policies and procedures. Must maintain proficiency in utilizing all applicable systems. Must meet mandatory educational and health requirements. Attends Health System and Departmental In-services, education forums, and meetings as required.
