Brief Job Duties:

Position Overview: Biddeford School Department is seeking a dedicated and accomplished individual to assume the role of Director of Student Services. The Director of Student Services will play a pivotal role in leading and coordinating the Student Service Department activities, ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of academic, college, and career support services to students. This position requires a dynamic leader who can manage various aspects of department operations, collaborate with stakeholders, and contribute to the overall educational excellence of the Biddeford School Department. This position will be largely focused at the middle and high school levels with coordination and vertical alignment district wide.

The ideal candidate will have experience in the following areas:1. Leadership and Collaboration:

  • Attend and actively participate in monthly BHS Leadership Team meetings, representing the guidance department's interests and contributing to school-wide decisions.

  • Supervise School Counselors working with academic planning, college and career readiness.

  • Collaborate with guidance staff, administration, and stakeholders to ensure the alignment of department activities with the school's goals and objectives.

  • Work with Department Leaders and administration to create an equitable department course schedule annually, manage the master schedule and consider student needs and preferences.

  • Coordinate and lead district wide School Counselor and Resiliency Coordinator meetings.

  1. College and Career Support:
  • Coordinate formal testing administration, providing students with valuable college readiness experiences.

  • Oversee and maintain college software (Naviance), enhancing students' access to college and career resources.

  • Maintain strong relationships with state admissions counselors, facilitating students' transition to higher education.

  1. Student Academic Supports:
  • Collaborate with local community colleges to increase Concurrent/Dual Enrollment courses, enabling students to earn college credits.

  • Manage the scheduling and oversight of staff members involved in concurrent course offerings.

  • Develop and manage pathways or endorsements for students, providing them with clear academic and career trajectories.

  • Serve as a liaison to the Alternative Pathways Center, ensuring students have access to diverse educational opportunities.

  1. Curriculum and Program Management:
  • Update content in the BHS Program of Studies annually, reflecting changes in course offerings and requirements.

  • Oversee counseling-related curriculum and programming delivered through classrooms, enrichment time, and study halls.

  • Schedule and lead monthly department meetings, fostering open communication and collaboration among team members. Essential to work collaboratively with the Biddeford Regional Center of Technology school counselor as well as the Biddeford Middle School counselors.

  1. Supervision and Development:
  • Conduct annual supervisory evaluations for department members, providing constructive feedback and support.

  • Assist in the professional development and growth of team members, including those requiring a Professional Improvement Plan (PIP).

  • Address personnel issues within the department, including tardiness, disputes, and insubordination, seeking appropriate support from building administration and HR when necessary.

  • Facilitate the hiring process for new department members, ensuring a rigorous and inclusive selection process.

  1. Meetings and Scheduling:
  • Responsible for oversight and implementation of the master schedule

  • Work with department leaders and administration to create an equitable department course schedule annually, manage the master schedule and consider student needs and preferences.

  • Schedule and lead monthly department meetings, fostering open communication and collaboration among team members. Essential to work collaboratively with the Biddeford Regional Center of Technology school counselor as well as the Biddeford Middle School counselors.

  1. Budget Management:

    1. Develop and manage the department budget, including preparing yearly budget proposals for submission to the principal.
