Boehringer Ingelheim Senior Scientist - Muscle Biology in Sarcopenia in Biberach, Germany
The Position
We are looking for a talented and experienced senior scientist who is enthusiastic about discovering innovative therapeutic approaches to fight skeletal muscle loss in Sarcopenia. Within the Cardio-Renal-Metabolism Disease Research (CRMDR) Department, research will focus on the in depth-investigation and validation of pathways modulating muscle biology as basis for novel therapeutic concepts.
Tasks & responsibilities
In your new role, you will contribute to the ideation of novel therapeutic concepts and be responsible for research projects aiming to modulate muscle biology and treat sarcopenia.
As senior scientist, you will independently design, execute, analyse and document scientific experiments with in vitro muscle cell systems and ex-vivo samples to study effects on muscle metabolism, differentiation, atrophy, hypertrophy and contraction.
You will advance the science in this field by setting up and using state of the art methods to investigate the effects of pharmacological interventions on functional changes in muscle cells and ex-vivo tissue samples.
Your experimental studies and respective data will continuously support and kick-off novel drug-discovery projects and thereby contribute to the success of our drug discovery pipeline.
Your role will include training and supervision of technical staff.
In addition, you will work in a stimulating environment, across departments in multidisciplinary teams to quickly develop ideas into drug discovery projects.
As a recognized scientist in the field of muscle biology, specifically sacopenia, you will take part in internal and external meetings, interact with academic partners, and present and publish break through results at conferences and in peer revied journals in agreement with company guidelines.
Requirements
PhD degree in Biology, Medicine, Veterinary Medicine or related discipline with several years of postdoctoral experience and expert knowledge in cellular and skeletal muscle physiology and disease biology.
Extensive hands-on experience in cell culture, including primary cell culture, using state of the art technologies to interrogate e.g. signaling pathways and energy metabolism
Substantial experience in pharmacology, sarcopenia research
Experience with analysis of muscle histology and function, e.g. contraction and high resolution respirometry in vitro / ex vivo
Scientific excellence, demonstrated by a track record of publications in scientific journals
Very good oral communication and presentation skills as well as the ability to work in a drug discovery-oriented environment and multidisciplinary teams
Fluency in English written and spoken
