Our mission is to discover new therapeutic targets and enable the development of new medicine based on solid pathobiology understanding.
In order to fortify our lung organoid working group we are seeking a master student on the topic: “Pharmacological manipulation of lung organoids to study alveolar repair in pulmonary fibrosis“. The title of the final thesis might vary.
Before beginning the thesis, the student is required to complete a three-month internship training.
You will gain an insight into the following topics and areas of activities:
You will learn how to isolate primary adult stem cells from human lung resections and how to culture them as organoids.
You will assess the effects of potential therapeutic compounds on the phenotype of those lung organoids.
With that you will advance our knowledge on what pathway are involved in lung regeneration.
You will apply state-of-the-art methods using our facilities in Biberach including (but not limited to) imaging, molecular biology and protein technologies.
You will be expected to present your results at meetings and to support publication efforts.
Your Profile
Student in biology, biochemistry, medicine or similar having reached requirements for a master thesis.
Knowledge of basic principles of pharmacology
Documented lab experience inclusive cell culture and molecular biology techniques
Hands-on experience with organoid culture is favored
Dedicated and team-oriented way of working as well as a high willingness to learn
Good knowledge of MS Office
Fluency in spoken and written English
What we can offer you
A solid training on innovative, new multicellular models in drug discovery
As a student intern, you can expect a fair expense allowance (payment of the currently valid minimum wage)
You will be given 2.5 days of paid time off for every full month of the internship
A full-time internship is 37.5 hours a week
During your final thesis you will receive an allowance of 900€ per month
The duration of the internship is 3 months. The start of the master thesis should happen right after and last for 6 months. The earliest start date is currently in 01.03.2025.
