Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry. This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

For our Tech-Center in Berlin-Adlershof, Germany , we are looking for an

Optics Engineer (m/f/d)

Scope of Position:

Development of optical systems and applications, optical properties and optical designs of products, processes and testing solutions for optical connectors, components and subassemblies.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Participate in projects with worldwide impact on optical interconnects.

  • Prototype development of optical subassemblies

  • Component selection and evaluation

  • Product and process development and transfer to production

  • Test and characterization of optical interconnects

  • Support of product development for fiber-optical modules and components

  • Writing technical reports and specifications

Required Education:

  • Master's Degree, or similar, in Engineering or Physics or related discipline.

Required Skills:

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in optical component industry

  • Experience in setup of semi-automated and automated assembly stations

  • Strong background in manufacturing processes of optical components

  • Fundamental knowledge about telecommunication laser sources, detectors and optical fibers

  • Expertise in mechanical design, thermal modeling and precision placement

  • CAD Design (ProE or similar)

  • Microsoft Office, specifically Excel

Desired Requirements:

  • Exceptional analytical skills

  • Experience in quality management of processes (Six sigma)

  • LabView programming

  • Experience in software programming (C, C++, Matlab)

Soft Skills:

  • Ability to work unsupervised and schedule time effectively.

  • Excellent English (spoken and written)

  • Able to work across regional boundaries and cultures.

  • Drive and commitment to implement new processes and products
