LTD Global Medical Assistant (On-site) in Berkeley, California
Job Summary
Under the direction and general supervision of the Occupational Health Clinic Manager and the medical direction of the Site Occupational Medical Director (SOMD), the Medical Assistant supports the Health Services clinic team members in providing for the needs of ill and injured employees and rendering the best possible care. Performance reflects a sound knowledge base pertinent to training and skill level in assigned clinical and administrative support duties, data collection, all aspects of employee health care management, and completing assessments and documentation.
Duties/Responsibilities
Clinic Reception (Front Office)
Greet and route patients in a professional manner, respecting and guarding confidentiality of employees and other staff members
Schedule/reschedule appointments, including referrals, using the electronic scheduling system
Field and route telephone calls, taking clear and accurate messages
Assist in maintaining smooth clinic operations and optimal flow
Direct or escort patients as necessary. Assure that employees leaving the clinic have appropriate instructions, forms and referral information. Intake and Patient Care (Back Office)
Pull charts, document reason for visit and other employee interactions according to established guidelines, including but not limited to vital signs, height, weight, pain screening and documentation of chief complaints
Obtain and document reason for visit, vital signs, medications and allergies and report information to the clinician
For medical surveillance and voluntary exams, explain tests and obtain written informed consent prior to conducting any testing
Assist clinicians as needed with exams and procedures, using sterile techniques if indicated.
Instruct employee in specimen collection, perform phlebotomy and prepare specimens for pick-up
Perform the following tests as needed: blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature, glucose fingerstick test, visual acuity, electrocardiograms, urine testing. Administer immunizations.
Provide support for various wellness initiatives, including but not limited to flu clinics, blood pressure screenings, cholesterol screenings and health and safety faire events at on-site and off-site locations

Clinic Maintenance and Supplies (Back Office)
Keep inventory of supplies and restock as needed, including health education materials; advise manager of expiring supplies and need for re-order. Unpack and shelve supplies.
Clean patient care areas between patients and at the end of the day.
Process biohazardous waste in accordance with written procedures on a weekly basis
Process contaminated instruments, prepare packs for sterilization and sterilize equipment as needed in accordance with written procedures
Provide periodic maintenance and cleaning of equipment, e.g., hot packs, cold packs, sterilizer
Additional Duties
Other related administrative and clinical duties as assigned by the clinical manager
Qualifications
Current California Medical Assistant Certification from an accredited program
2 – 4 years of experience in a medical office setting that includes medical assisting, and medical receptionist duties and appointment making
Strong computer skills, medical terminology knowledge and experience with basic medical charting; knowledge of electronic medical records
Highly motivated with the ability to organize, coordinate and complete projects effectively and within deadlines
Demonstrated experience with phlebotomy and immunizations
Demonstrated experience performing medical tests e.g. blood pressure, heart rate, etc.
Ability to function in an environment of competing priorities.
Demonstrated attention to detail and organizational skills with the ability to ensure completion of assignments in a timely manner
Ability to utilize clinic equipment correctly and safely
Well-developed people skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure
Excellent customer service and teamwork skills
Ability to understand and follow written protocols for patient care
Certification or the ability to become certified in CPR
Familiarity with HIPAA and the handling of personal health information (PHI)
Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position, which include lifting boxes of supplies up to 25 lbs, bending and reaching for clinic maintenance, and the ability to sit and perform computer related functions.
Preferred Qualifications (not mandatory)
Familiarity with DOE policies and procedures.
Experience with Workers’ Compensation processes and required documentation
Experience assisting with physical or occupational therapy
