Walmart (USA) Principal, Software Engineer in Bentonville, Arkansas

Position Summary...

What you'll do...

We are looking for an experienced Principal Software Engineer with expertise in mobile and full-stack development for the reporting team in finance. The ideal candidate will architect, design and implement applications that view and process large data structures from the perspective of an end-to-end software solution. This role requires collaboration with Product Management, cross-functional teams, creation of scalable and efficient systems. Also working to provide documentation, direction, and examples for the team.

From groceries and entertainment to sporting goods and crafts, Walmart U.S. offers an extensive selection that our customers value, whether they shop online at Walmart.com, through one of our mobile apps, or in-store. Focus areas include customers, stores and employees, in-store service, merchant tools, merchant data science, and search and personalization.

What you'll do:

  • Define and maintain architecture roadmap, technical solutions for new and existing functionality for the products.

  • Take ownership over architecture qualities of the end-to-end distributed applications.

  • Deliver architectural services, including guidance and conceptual design as well as technical and process innovations.

  • Providing technical leadership to the organization, guiding the development of new products and solutions, and ensuring that the organization's technical capabilities align with its strategic goals.

  • Investigate the latest technology and build quick Proof of Concept functionalities to address future business needs.

  • Collaborate with cross functional teams including business, product and other software engineers to understand the business problem, review business requirements, draft technical requirements, scope, design, develop, test, and deploy services and systems.

  • Working closely with senior leadership and other architects to drive innovation, improve efficiency, and promote technical excellence across the organization.

  • Providing technical guidance and mentorship to the engineering teams to help them deliver high-quality products and solutions.

  • Design complex systems which are scalable and fault tolerant. You will reason about trade-offs (timeliness/accuracy/resource usage) of multiple algorithmic solutions and to highlight the difference in product outcomes.

  • Drive automation using more adoption and maturity on the CICD stage gates for the applications.

  • Drive implementation of telemetry features based on the domain requirements to improve the overall operational excellence of the application.

  • Builds strong and trusting relationships with the business stakeholders with more engagement, collaboration, and facetime beyond the 4ITB meetings.

What you'll bring:

  • 10+ years of relevant industry experience in building highly available and global systems.

  • 7+ years Javascript, React, React Native, NextJS

  • 7+ years of working experience in Java/J2EE, NestJS

  • 5+ years Python or Scala

  • 5+ years of working experience in SQL queries

  • 3+ years of experience with Kafka or other high volume-low latency messaging infrastructure

  • Cloud certification i.e. Azure, GCP

  • ML/ AI experience

  • GraphQL experience

  • Demonstrated end-to-end ownership from inception to deployment of complex project in production.

  • Effective problem solving skills, ability to make design trade offs, balancing the long-term "big picture" and short-term implications of design decisions.

  • Expertise in service oriented architecture.

  • Experience with CI/CD and operational excellence best practices.

  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, including consensus building, conflict resolution, influence and persuasion skills.

  • Mentoring/coaching junior engineers in technical problem solving and career advancement

The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00-$220,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
