Team Lead- FinOps Tech

Role Description:

A FinOps Team Lead role includes managing and overseeing the financial and technical aspects of IT projects. This professional plays a crucial role in ensuring the success and efficiency of IT projects within a company. They work closely with finance, operations, and development teams to manage costs, resources, and performance.

Key responsibilities of a FinOps Team Lead includes analyzing project cost structures, identifying cost reduction opportunities, and implementing best practices to enhance IT project financials. These individuals are adept at creating budgets, forecasts, and tracking project financials to ensure projects are completed within the allocated budget and time frame.

Furthermore, a FinOps Technical Lead collaborates with technical teams in designing, developing, and executing IT projects while ensuring adherence to financial goals. They possess strong communication and leadership skills, and have the ability to influence decisions and drive results across cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • A FinOps Technical Lead manages the financial operations of cloud computing resources, improving efficiency, and reducing costs.

  • Deliver using tools: IBM Apptio (Cloud ability) or other similar tool stack

  • Assess and evaluate cost optimization and right sizing opportunities.

  • Assess anomalies with respect to cost per account being drilled to Resource level and analyze spike in usage.

  • Provide a dashboard view of overprovisioned and under provisioned instances to evaluate cost savings opportunities.

  • Performance tracking and benchmarking

  • Cost analysis and management

  • Usage measurement and monitoring

  • Tool Management

  • Centralized license usage and tracking

  • Data driven insights & reporting.

  • Lead the team in managing financial operations for IT departments, driving cost efficiency and savings.

  • Develop financial forecasts and budgets for IT projects, ensuring resources are allocated properly and timelines are met.

  • Analyze current and historical financial data to identify trends, opportunities for improvement, and areas for cost reduction.

  • Collaborate with IT and business teams to devise financial and operational strategies that align with overall company goals.

  • Establish and enforce financial policies, procedures, and best practices within IT to promote operational efficiency.

  • Continuously improve FinOps processes by identifying new tools, technologies, and methodologies for financial management in IT.

  • Train and mentor team members on FinOps practices, helping them to develop their skills and knowledge in the field.

  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and standards, regularly reviewing internal controls and processes for efficacy.

  • Communicate financial performance and recommendations to senior management, offering insights and support for informed decision-making.

  • Act as a liaison between IT and finance departments, facilitating communication and collaboration on financial matters.

Desired Candidate Profile

In order to excel in this role, a FinOps Team Lead needs to have a strong background in finance, IT, and project management. Possessing a deep understanding of financial planning, cost optimization, and forecasting is essential for success. Additionally, expertise in IT and technology is crucial for effectively managing technical projects and making informed decisions.

Key Skills

  • 10-12 years is essential, especially in finance or IT positions. Ideally, this should include experience with cloud computing, cost management, and data analysis. Candidates should also have strong leadership and communication skills Certifications in FinOps, cloud technologies, or related areas is preferred. Practical knowledge in software tools is beneficial.

  • Technical expertise in cloud platforms, knowledge of financial management, and strong project management skills are required.
