The OCI Problem Engineering team is dedicated to building tools and infrastructure to power company-wide reliability and availability programs. What You’ll Do

We seek an experienced engineering leader who enjoys leading/supporting engineers with the same enthusiasm as building high-impact developer tools/infrastructure. As the engineering leader of the OCI Problem Engineering team, you will drive engineering initiatives behind our reliability and availability programs.

  • Lead the Problem Engineering team from the IDC office and support a team of passionate engineers.

  • Collaborate with US team/leaders on Problem Engineering initiatives.

  • Work with OCI product leaders to translate business requirements into technical specifications.

  • Architect, design, develop and troubleshoot scalable, operationally focused, customer-facing cloud services.

  • Drive performant, scalable, and forward-thinking solutions to completion on time.

  • Maintain development and production infrastructure as part of a customer-focused engineering culture with operational excellence.

  • Provide technical guidance and constructive feedback to leadership, team members, and other stakeholders.

  • Contribute to product roadmaps by identifying areas of need and engaging with stakeholders to scope work.

  • Raise the bar for engineering quality and best practices.

Qualifications

  • 12+ years of experience in the software industry, with 5+ years being a people manager supporting large teams.

  • Practical experience working in a cloud environment: Oracle Cloud (OCI), AWS, GCP, Azure, and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).

  • In-depth understanding of the entire product development lifecycle, including liaising with product management, writing technical specifications, making product-impacting decisions, architecting and designing world-class services, developing and reviewing code, driving DevOps, managing releases and operations.

  • Ability to identify opportunities for innovation, drive to be on top of tech debt, plan for continuous improvements in technology and operations, and maintain a solid security posture.

  • Comfort with complex, rapidly evolving software development environments. Ability to learn new technologies quickly.

  • Ability to create, drive, and evangelize cross-team processes and achieve org-wide impact.

  • Good grip over CI/CD processes and tools such as GitLab, JIRA, TeamCity/Jenkins, Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, Ansible, etc.

  • Web development (HTML, JavaScript, CSS, React) as part of Full Stack development experience is preferable.

  • Previous experience with system monitoring, automation, and incident management tools is preferable.

  • Previous experience working in cloud computing is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

As a director of the software engineering division, you will apply your extensive knowledge of software architecture to manage software development tasks associated with developing, debugging or designing software applications, operating systems and databases according to provided design specifications. Build enhancements within an existing software architecture and envision future improvements to the architecture.
