GE Healthcare Lead Mechanical System Engineer in Bengaluru, India

Job Description Summary

This position provides mechanical engineering design leadership for modality components and subsystems. The position works to identify and execute strategic quality engineering efforts in addition to driving cross-functional engagement of quality project initiatives. This role requires the interaction with other service and design engineering teams in order to ensure the product quality goals set forth by the business.

Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Leading design visualization efforts with 3D CAD models and essential component and assembly details to explore multiple design options.

  • Developing innovative designs to meet all requirements for performance, rel ability, cost and manufacturability.

  • Developing engineering design concepts for components and electromechanical assemblies that have tough requirements for size, precision, reliability and cost.

  • Leading quality engineering projects that provide imaginative solutions to engineering and customer issues.

  • Perform failure analysis of issues reported from field, NCs, trending etc. including autopsies of failed units whenever available.

  • Document the detailed analysis using tools like fish bone, 5 WHYs, Reliability etc. and identify the root-cause of failures and propose solutions.

  • Accountable to choose design concepts and solutions, components, tools and methods.

  • Developing and maintaining mechanical subsystem quality and engineering project funnel Influencing cross-functional teams to implement quality actions.

  • Delivering improvements to customer focused metrics.

  • Providing guidance and requirements to new product development teams in order to improve quality of new releases

  • Analysing and validating material/component selection, tolerances, performance, cost, manufacturability whenever required.

  • Concurrently manage multiple assignments and meet the schedules.

Education Qualifications

• Master’s/ Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience

Required Qualification

  • Demonstrated capabilities in thermal and mechanical simulation

  • 10+ years experiences in mechanical design or project engineering.

  • Demonstrated expertise on design electro-mechanical assemblies, sheet metal parts, machined parts, Castings

  • Working knowledge with materials engineering, processes and mechanical properties

  • Demonstrated experience in building engineering prototypes and conducting design validation tests

  • Proven hands-on expertise in one or more CAD tools for feature-based parametric modelling and assembly modelling

  • Understanding of Finite element analysis and use of FEA tools

  • Demonstrated interpersonal and leadership skills and has the ability to work and inspire others in a multi-functional team environment

  • Must be a self-starter - Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Experience working within a regulated environment (medical device experience is a plus)

  • Ability to meet aggressive reliability, performance, cost, serviceability, and delivery targets

  • Demonstrated capabilities in thermal and mechanical simulation

  • Design for reliability experience. Design for manufacturing / Service / Cost experience

  • Demonstrated project leadership, technical leadership and influencing skills

  • Green Belt/Black Belt Certified

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Reviews and understands the applicable standards required by Law in country that apply to the relevant products.

  • Communicates standards to the design community and maintains it may also participate with independent third parties to perform product compliance and certification work (testing, design review etc.) and communicates results/actions to the relevant engineering and supply chain team.

  • Interacts with outside engineering firms or governmental agencies to provide or record product compliance to required regional or national standards to gain the needed product certification or qualification.

  • Includes direct people management responsibility including staffing and performance development. Utilizes in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline and analytical thinking and technical experience to execute policy/strategy.

  • Has knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; is aware of the competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market

  • Uses some judgment and has some ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters to address more complicated manufacturing processes with technical variety and/or interdependent production cycles.

  • Uses technical experience and analytical thinking.

  • Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own teams to arrive at decisions.

  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience.

  • May lead small projects with low risks and resource requirements.

  • Explains information; developing skills to bring team members to consensus around topics within field.

  • Conveys performance expectations and may handle sensitive issues.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Engineering Degree in “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)

  • This role requires advanced experience in the Engineering/Technology & Technical Regulations and Standards.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyse and resolve problems.

  • Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs.

  • Established project management skills.
